Our recent hands-on with Dark Messiah of Might & Magic makes it clear that this is an extremely tough game to pigeonhole into a specific genre. Its brutal, physical first-person action crashes viciously through the tidy role-playing box we'd thought to drop it into when we first heard about it. Our recent hands-on of the first few single player levels violently proves that this isn't just another first-person RPG.
We entered the world of Dark Messiah as Sareth, a young apprentice who is sent down to explore a dangerous dungeon with no weapons or armor (an unnerving experience). However, our master's voice guided us through and taught us the basics of movement without too much hand-holding. We needed to get ready for combat - there were a few orcs ahead, blocking our path.
