Project Eternity Kickstarter raises $1.45 million in 3 days

Obsidian Entertainment’s Project Eternity Kickstarter has soared to $1.45 million, neatly vaulting its $1.1 million goal despite only launching on September 14. The project, billed as a modern version of computer role-playing games like Baldur’s Gate, Planescape: Torment, and Icewind Dale (all of which current Obsidian employees were involved with), will continue raising funds for assorted stretch goals until its October 16 deadline.

The fantasy RPG is currently estimated for an April 2014 release. Obsidian intends for the game to evoke several elements of classic RPGs, including real-time tactical combat, customizable characters, and several companions. More adventuring partners, races, and character classes are all set as stretch goals for Project Eternity.

While the game’s combat and setting hearken back to the Dungeons & Dragons-based Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale, Project Eternity will have an original world and rules system. The game is currently only slated for PC, though Mac and Linux versions are both on the table if the Kickstarter reaches $1.6 million and $2.2 million, respectively.
