New look, same satisfying feel

New look, same satisfying feel

Whether in a pizza parlor or at home on the couch, Pac-Man's core gameplay is the definition of timeless. That's why everyone was so shocked when it was somehow made better in Pac-Man Championship Edition, which infused the pellet-munching action with trippy visuals and a stellar bass-heavy soundtrack. Quasi-sequel DX was more of a good thing, with more ghost types and crazy long power-pellet strings. Now, there's Championship Edition DX+, a free update with optional DLC--and its also bringing Pac-Man to the PC at long last.

The headliners of DX+ are three new aesthetic styles, which remix the visuals, sound effects, and music to match Dig Dug, Rally-X, or the Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures kids show. Any old-school gamers will especially get a kick out of playing Pac-Man with Dig Dug visuals, complete with Pookas and Fygars in place of your typical ghosts. These skins won't come free on consoles, but they can be purchased on the cheap, while Steam buyers will get everything right off the bat.

If you're already a CE DX master, you'll appreciate four additional maps--each with some rather complex layouts--and the inclusion of new challenge medals. Playing the Championship III stage was a rush, and figuring out Pac-Man's optimal path is as addictive and adrenaline-inducing as ever. We can't wait to pick up the game all over again when it hits Steam, leaderboards and all--because there's nothing like some old-fashioned high score competition between friends.

Check out the following screens for more info!

We will never tire of the melody that Dig Dug's feet make when he scoots around. It's also hilarious to see Dig Dug vegetables in place of Pac-Man's fruit.

Rally-X's visuals are a lot more simple, with nothing more than flags to collect and cars to avoid. And yep, using a bomb still docks your score multiplier.

Kids will go gaga for the Ghostly Adventures look--and for those not in the know, it might lead to the discovery of the popular animated series.

You'll have to ration your Power Pellets carefully on the new layouts, lest you get overwhelmed at an inopportune moment.
