Tammy

Director: Ben Falcone

Cast: Melissa McCarthy, Susan Sarandon, Dan Aykroyd, Allison Janney, Kathy Bates, Toni Collette

Genre: Comedy

Plot: Melissa McCarthy is where it’s. After setting a thousands tongues a-wagging in Bridesmaids , she’s back troubling funny-bones with Tammy . Starring as the titular laydee, she discovers her husband has been unfaithful – right after she loses her job. Which sounds pretty depressing, but with McCarthy involved, you can bet there'll be plenty of guffaws.

How To Train Your Dragon 2 (3D)

Genre: CGI Animation Adventure

You may like

  • Dune Movie release dates 2026: Every major film coming to cinemas and streaming

Plot: Cinema's most loveable and simultaneously bad-ass dragon returns, and while the plot's pretty locked down, we know that the vikings and their new army of dragons will be leaving their comfort zone for more colourful - and deadlier - climes.

US Release Date: 20 June 2014

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

Director: Matt Reeves

Cast: Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Judy Greer

Genre: Sci-Fi Action

Plot: The Apes are back - and this time they've taken over. Yep, after the brilliant credits of Rise of the Planet of the Apes , the world has undeniably gone to pot, so it's left to a bunch of San Francisco-bound scientists to stay alive during the plague that's wiping out the world, all the while Caesar struggles to control his community of hyper intelligent apes.

Jupiter Ascending

Director: Andy Wachowski, Lana Wachowski

Cast:
Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Eddie Redmayne

Genre: Action adventure

Plot: Hot on the heels of their ambitious adaptation of Cloud Atlas , the Wachowskis return with another scintillating slice of sci-fi. Jupiter Ascending stars Mila Kunis as Jupiter Jones, a Russian cleaner targeted for murder by the Queen of the Universe. Channing Tatum’s interplanetary warrior Caine is the one sent to carry the job out. This should be operatic and reliably-kooky stuff from the directors of The Matrix.

Hercules: The Thracian War

Director: Brett Ratner

Cast: Dwayne Johnson

Genre: Fantasy Adventure

Plot: The Rock heads up the revamp of one of the most classically ridiculous Arnie films of all time. This time, expect a little more seriousness with the sword-swinging. Finally, the time comes for him and his fellow warriors to realise how far they've fallen.

Sex Tape

Director: Jake Kasdan

Cast: Cameron Diaz, Jason Segel

Genre:
Comedy

Plot: When a married couple find that their recently-shot sex tape has mysteriously disappeared, they embark on a desperate quest to track it down before it’s too late. With Bad Teacher director Jake Kasdan behind the camera, and Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel in front, this should be a veritable laugh riot – though jury’s out on if Segel’s little fella will be making another cameo appearance after Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

US Release Date:
2 July 2014

Guardians of the Galaxy

Director: James Gunn

Cast: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper

Genre: Superhero Sci-Fi

Plot: While it's arguable that every Marvel project to date has been pretty risky, Guardians of the Galaxy is undoubtedly the most tricksy of all their Phase 2 titles. The mega space-epic attempts to make the Marvel Universe live up to its namesake by exploring the interplanetary hijinks of a bunch of ragtag alien superheroes. Including a giant fighting tree, a wise-cracking talking raccoon and bad-ass space warriors aplenty.

Genre: Action

Plot: No plot has been released as yet, but we're sure that Sly's Twitter feed will reveal it as it's confirmed. But to be honest, as long as the gang are back blowing things up and delivering one liners, does anyone really care about a story?
