FORMER HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION Lennox Lewis associate produces this Jamaican boxing movie, which unfolds in inner-city Kingston. It’s election time and armed political factions are spreading terror. Teenager Derrick (Kevoy Burton) dreams of fighting for his country, only to fall foul of both his own community-organiser father (Carl Davis) and a feared crimelord (Chris McFarlane). Writer/director Chris Browne is prone to dramatic clichés and broad characterisations, yet Life emerges as a heartfelt plea for national unity in the face of ‘politricks’ and sectarian violence.
