50 Movie Sidekicks Who Stole The Show

Dug - Up (2009)

The Sidekick: Man's best friend. Also has the ability to talk, thanks to a fancy contraption that lets us hear his thoughts.

His squirrel jokes are sort of sick, though.

Most Charming Moment: "My name is Dug. I have just met you, and I love you."

Heart. Melted.

Samwise - Lord Of The Rings (2001-2003)

The Sidekick: In a word: hobbit. Doesn't like adventures, but leaves the peace of the Shire to help buddy Frodo (Elijah Wood) destroy the One Ring. Big softie.

Most Charming Moment: "PO-TAY-TOES!"

Samwise attempts to explain the art of cooking to a horrified Gollum.

Buzz Lightyear - Toy Story (1995-2010)

The Sidekick: Just about the coolest toy you could ever hope to receive as a Christmas present, Buzz (Tom Allen) has all the gizmos and gadgets - and the heart of a lion.

Most Charming Moment: Surely his transformation into a Spanish Buzz in Toy Story 3 - in which he promptly goes about seducing Jessie the Cowgirl.

Uggie - The Artist (2011)

The Sidekick: The most anthropomorphic pooch the screen has ever seen, Uggie belongs to silent movie star George Valentine. They're almost impossible to tell apart.

Most Charming Moment: Uggie copies George's movements to the letter as he sits having breakfast with his wife.

Thing - Addams Family (1991-1993)

The Sidekick: Well, a hand. But also a perfectly limber sidekick for the entire Addams Family - Thing is quick-thinking, fast-acting, and really good at massages. Probably.

Most Charming Moment: "Slow down!" yells Gomez, as Thing attempts to save the day in The Addams Family , but gets over-excited. "It's terrible when you stutter!"

Mini-Me - Austin Powers (1999-2002)

The Sidekick: A miniature (one eighth) version of Dr Evil, Mini-Me (Verne Troyer) may not say much (the occasional "eee!" aside), but he makes up for that with his adorable facial expressions. He's also a mean fighter, as proven when he takes on Austin Powers in space.

Most Charming Moment: Mini-Me dances with Dr Evil to the tune of 'Just The Two Of Us'. Adorable.

Garth - Wayne's World 1 & 2 (1992-3)

The Sidekick: Perma-grin innocent with the best hair this side of Aerosmith.

He's terrified of girls, but his priorities lie in strumming to the key of rock with fellow music fan Wayne (Mike Myers).

Most Charming Moment:
The moment he impersonates a police officer in order to spy on Wayne's date.

Or wait, no, admitting he fancies Bugs Bunny when he's in drag. Or…

Cameron - Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

The Sidekick: Depressed, distant, total worry wart, Cameron (Alan Ruck) is the best bud of loveable tearaway Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick).

Most Charming Moment: He takes the blame for Ferris' destruction of his dad's Ferrari, meaning Cameron's the real hero of the piece.

Trinity - The Matrix (1999)

The Sidekick: The sidekick/lover of Neo (Keanu Reeves), Trinity's been unplugged from the Matrix mainframe, but she still knows how to use it to her advantage.

Namely that involves kicking ass, flying helicopters, and rocking skin-tight leather…

Most Charming Moment: "I just thought you were a guy," Neo says when he first meets Trinity. "Most guys do," she replies coolly.

Whoop-ah.

Sloth - The Goonies (1985)

The Sidekick: Sure, he's not the owner of the prettiest face, but Sloth's got a heart of pure gold - something that's confirmed when he sides with the Goonies against his evil family members.

Most Charming Moment: "Heey yo-uu gu-uuys!"

Sloth bellows his signature war cry.
