2D and 3D Mario titles coming to 3DS, says Miyamoto

Nintendo's foray into stereoscopic 3D gaming has us foaming at the mouth, but that's not to be confused with theother meaning of '3D,' referring to polygons, which Nintendo'sShigeru Miyamototells us won't dominate the platform, at least in terms of Mario games.

"When asked 'what will we do on 3DS,' the answer is, of course, we'll make both [2D and 3D]. They both have their own appeal," said Miyamoto in a Q%26amp;A.

Miyamoto noted that Nintendo faced a schism in its fan base over the introduction of Super Mario 64, and that the company has since made efforts to make future Mario games enjoyable for all gamers, a strategy he hopes to carry over to the next generation of 3DS titles.

He went onto discusshow stereoscopic depth effects can be effectively implemented in both 3D and 2D games.
