As for the big guns, Sony has admitedly fared less well than could have been hoped, but the PS3 has still been home to a couple of exclusive gems which can proudly stand shoulder to shoulder with the rest of this year’s immense gaming bounty. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune provided a great-looking, vibrant new adventure with a much-needed pulpy sense of fun, and hopefully cemented an exciting new franchise for the future. And Ratchet And Clank Future is an exploding whirlwind of colour and fun that while more traditional than Super Mario Galaxy, has to have helped spearhead a glorious platformer comeback alongside Nintendo’s masterpiece.
And don’t forget that the HD Wipeout retrospective is on the way and looks and plays gorgeously. And then there’s always the small matter of a game called Metal Gear Solid 4, which has blown minds at every event it’s been shown at this year, from Japan to Germany. Overall Sony might not have had a staggering year in terms of actual releases, but as a foundation year, 2007 has eventually turned out pretty well. If the PS3 can spend next year building on the victories it has gleaned so far in terms of quality exclusives and overall platform philosophy, 2008 is going to be good.

Former (and long-time) GamesRadar+ writer, Dave has been gaming with immense dedication ever since he failed dismally at some '80s arcade racer on a childhood day at the seaside (due to being too small to reach the controls without help). These days he's an enigmatic blend of beard-stroking narrative discussion and hard-hitting Psycho Crushers.
