"Best Buy's zombie-packed Resident Evil 5 launch event will be getting some help from the U.S. Army which will be on hand with M16's for a "staged event", we're told.

Earlier this week we reported that the Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania Best Buy would be holding a special Resident Evil 5 premiere event for the launch of the game, filling their store with zombies and bringing customers through a make-shift haunted house."

Resident Evil 5 might be taking a kicking across the great wide virtual tundra of the Internet, but it has at least one defender - God of War creator David Jaffe.

Jaffe noted that he is, "happy that the RE5 demo is really growing on him. At first I was kind of 'meh' on it, but it's really grown on me. I'm really digging it! :)"

Critics of the demo have been complaining, most notably, about the inability in the game to run and shoot simultaneously.

ButtonMasher writes that: According to an email from a New Zealand online store taking pre-orders for the game, the distributor has advised that there will not be a Limited Edition release of this game for Australasia.

Why this is the case is hardly clear, so we can only speculate. Does it relate to the Australian Capcom distributor (Red Ant) going into "administration" on 20 January? Would the price of the Limited Edition be prohibitive, given the local supplier increasing the RRP for the standard game from the usual $130 price point to $140?

Who knows. All that we do know is that it's a bummer of a time to be a gamer in Australasia.

Well after all the fuss going around about being able to run and shoot in upcoming action survival horror Resident Evil 5 seems to be a complete fabrication.

Official Xbox Magazine has claimed on their twitter;

"watching the RE5 OXM Report on Inside Xbox. No, you cannot run and shoot in RE5, despite what the Capcom guy said in the clip!"

Wait? I'm confused OXM & Capcom. Shouldn't the Capcom rep know what he is on about? Why was this information released on Inside Xbox by OXM in the first place? Who knows what they are talking about!!?

Next week, Console Monster has been invited to a swanky Resident Evil 5 event in London to test out the game. As soon as we have had a good hands on playthrough (and a cheeky peek into the control options) we shall let you know what is going on.

Capcom has announced an update to the Resident Evil 5 Kijuju site.

The new update includes a new video mixer that enables gamers to create their own trailers using live action footage shot by director Marcus Nispel (known for his work on Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th) and exclusive RE5 footage.

If you head over to the Resident Evil 5 Kijuju site at www.residentevil.com/kijuju you can get an inside look at Resident Evil 5 with live-action viral videos and exclusive video and screenshots. You can also check out the Wall of Fame where users sharing viral videos are being made famous.

Last but not least, a post on Capcom's blog has announced that the next video is coming soon. The words "I heard Microsoft will have the password" seems to suggest that Resident Evil fans can expect this new video to land on Xbox Live soon so stay tuned.

Resident Evil 5 launches on the Xbox 360 and PS3 on the 13th of March.
