NCAA Football Lawsuit Brings More Legal Trouble for EA Sports (News)

As GamePolitics has reported, Electronic Arts may soon face a lawsuit by retired NFL players who believe their likenesses were unlawfully incorporated into EA's best-selling Madden game. But former college players now want their slice of EA's money pie as well.

SF Weekly reports that a one-time college quarterback is now making the same claim as NFL retirees in regard to EA's popular NCAA Football and NCAA Basketball franchises. Samuel Keller (left), formerly of Arizona State and Nebraska, is the lead plaintiff in the class action suit.

GamesIndustry.Biz writes: "Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello says that his company doesn't usually get the benefit of the "cult" when it comes to game ratings.

While speaking to investors gathered for the William Blair & Company's 28th Annual Growth Stock Conference, Riccitiello was asked to estimate the Metacritic review scores for EA's upcoming titles.

"I always hate answering questions like this. It is a little bit like you're jinxing the play, you know - 'We expect the New York Times to love this play.'

"And you sort of feel a little bit like a twit getting out ahead of it because there's a certain cadre of journalists that would love to prove me wrong."

Riccitiello said that he has looked carefully at EA Sports titles - NASCAR, NCAA, Madden and NBA Live - and found them to be better products than last year."

The achievements for NCAA Football 09 have been officially revealed by Xbox360achievements.org. At first glance, EA has actually taken some time to throw in a little more creativity to the achievements, from Touchdown celebrations to nailing a Field Goal after being iced. However, some of the dreaded achievements from last year return, including "Mr. February", which challenges the player to have the #1 ranked recruiting class in a season. The game features 49 achievements for the 1000 points, and is atleast a step up from last year's attempt. For the entire list of achievements, hit the jump.

EA has announced the final two cover athletes for NCAA Football 09, scheduled to hit stores across North America on July 15 from EA SPORTS. The first news on NCAA Football 09 was released by EA Sports today as they not only announced Darren McFadden to be the cover athlete for the 360 version of the game, but that there will be platform exclusive cover athletes for the PS3, PS2, and PSP versions. Those will be announced in late April and early May.
