Lost Planet Sex Offender to Face Grand Jury (News)

The grand jury will hear the charges against Andrew Fitzgerald Holloway, the 21-year-old Rhode Islander. He is accused of sex crimes against a 13-year-old Bedford County girl, who he met while playing the Xbox game Lost Planet. Holloway is charged with three counts of unlawful carnal knowledge and two counts of using a computer to solicit sex acts.

After they met on Lost Planet, it is believed that the pair formed a relationship which lasted six months before Holloway decided to fly to the girl's area on February 3rd of last year. That very evening, the girl was reported missing by her parents.

Capcom sent PS3Center an e-mail earlier saying that the official press release for the title will be due out Wednesday and a few more details may just slip out in it. PlayStation owners especially should keep an ear out - it's likely to be revealed whether or not the game will be coming to the PS3 then as well.

Lost Planet sequel in development (News)

With news over the weekend that the Lost Planet film would be backed by a huge $150-$200 million budget, Capcom has also announced that a sequel to the game is in development. Capcom made the announcement via the Weekly Famitsu, a popular Japanese gaming magazine. The sequel will be due out for the PS3 and 360 in 2009, with some exclusive content for the Xbox 360 version.

IGN writes: "As one of AX's most distinguished guests of honor, voice actor/screenwriter David Hayter was the focus of some the convention's most interesting and crowd drawing panels. On Friday, Hayter hosted an open Q&A panel with an audience of several thousand enthusiastic fans.

While a majority of the questions were related to the Metal Gear Solid game franchise and countless requests to recite lines as Snake, Hayter did make mention of two new projects he is engaged in: an unannounced action/adventure film that he will likely direct, and a screenplay for the film adaptation of Capcom's Lost Planet. As of June, Hayter was engaged in preliminary talks to draft the latest game-to-film, however, when we spoke to him at an press exclusive panel this afternoon, it would seem that Lost Planet is closer to fruition than previously thought.

"It's not entirely confirmed yet," said Hayter. "But we are just closing the deal with Warner Bros. for me to adapt Lost Planet." Unfortunately, due to Hayter's contractual agreements, we were unable to obtain more specific information about the film. However, we did get a chance to probe into Hayter's approach to adapting games to film, having now been slated to write the adaptation for Lost Planet, and a treatment for the potential adaptation of Metal Gear Solid."

Don't confuse this week's new release of Lost Planet Extreme Condition: Colonies Edition as just a regular re-released Xbox 360 Platinum Hits game priced at $29.99. Lost Planet's Colonies Edition features many character, weapon and multiplayer gameplay extras. Capcom also wants you to know that Dead Rising's Frank West can be found in the game, complete (or incomplete) with Capcom-colored "tiddy-whities".

So, it seems Capcom not only wants to "do with games what Marvel did with comics," but it looks like they want to do with comics what Marvel did with comics, too.

Four comics are on the way, and so far, two have been named in Bionic Commando and Lost Planet. Published by Devil's Due, these two comics, plus the identities of the remaining two, will make their debut soon at the San Diego Comic Con.

It's arriving at $29.99 for North America while the European tag is yet to be announced, but will be "in line with other platinum releases".

Flame launcher detailed for Lost Planet Colonies (News)

Capcom has revealed a new weapon for Lost Planet Colonies, the flame launcher, "its like a rocket launcher, but, you know, for flames."

Capcom's Seth Killian detailed the Flame Launcher in a video on Capcom's blog. To sum up, while players had to use a grenade or dig using B to find items buried the snow in the original game, the flame launcher can be used to melt snow "almost instantly."

In addition the flame launcher is "pretty effective" to take down structures and it does take them down a lot faster than normal weapons. It also does good damage on people but you may have to "keep them cooking for a while."

Joystiq writes: "Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition -- known around these parts as Lost Planet: Colonies or Lost Planet 1.5 -- has finally been officially announced. The game is a repackaging of the full Lost Planet title, plus a bunch of additional multiplayer and single-player extras. The good news: It'll cost about $30. The bad news: Colonies Edition multiplayer will be incompatible with current Lost Planet games.

Scheduled for a May 27 release on 360 and PC, Colonies mainly adds new, creative multiplayer modes to the original game. Several are based on holding checkpoints and CTF variants. Our favorite, however, lets one gamer control an Akrid, with the others teaming up to try to take down the alien. Different creatures are available, and we recently saw a demo showing how a spindly, player-controlled giant can make quick kills with its swiping legs."

Capcom (may) have, via leaked mag scans, had the wraps taken off Lost Planet Colonies, the successor to snowy bug-killing simulator Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. What's new? There's a new playable character (that girl in snow gear) and in online play you'll get the option of playing as the bugs against the humans. That online play will feature cross-platform play between PCs and 360s. There's all-new weapons and all-new monsters to fight (including their eggs), and it'll be out in Japan on May 29. Oh, and no word of a PS3 release as of yet. Capcom US has seemingly acknowledged that a PC and 360 game called Lost Planet Colonies is being prepared.

The game has now shown up on the websites for a couple of ratings boards, including the US ESRB, and the publisher told IGN to "stay tuned".

Capcom Eurosoft said it couldn't comment.

Capcom announced today that they are releasing a new patch as well as new multiplayer maps for Lost Planet on the PC. The new DX enhancement for Lost Planet PC will be released as an automatic download on August 16 and will utilize Geometry Shaders to improve the overall visual quality through beter depth of field effects and improve motion blurring.

Dutch website InsideGamer has found out that Lost Planet Colonies will be coming to Xbox 360 and PC. A releaselist from publisher Nobilis revealed the game to be released in january 2008.
