Here is the full Xbox Live Marketplace update for Monday 28th – Wednesday 30th September 2009:

Xbox Live Arcade
Military Madness: Nectaris
Price: 800 Microsoft Points
Size: 101 MB
The Military is back for a new generation of recruits! The classic turn-based strategy series Military Madness, aka Nectaris, returns with an all-new graphical barrage and a host of new features. In addition to the single-player campaign, you and your allies can wage war offline or online in 4-person multiplayer, either in teams or every man for himself. As you bask in the glow of victory or suffer crushing defeats, check the online leaderboards to compare your skills against those of other generals. There's even an all-new multiplayer-only unit, the Commander, which has 20 unique abilities to turn the tide of battle. This is the maddest game in the series yet! This game requires the Xbox 360 hard drive or the 512MB Memory Unit for storage. There are no refunds for this item. For more information, see www.xbox.com/live/accounts..."
While it might be worth it if you are interested in other genres, B&M stores have passed by the RPG genre again this week. Such practices will not last for long with titles like Dragon Age: Origins and Alpha Protocol hitting stores this Fall. Expect those to be the welcome casualties of $10 off sales – the Fallout 3 GOTY edition will be the same.

Though GameStop is offering used copies of Fable II for $25 until Thursday of this week. Oh boy."

Eurogamer.pt: After the conference presented by Microsoft during E3, the Christmas Project, and the software presented in the name Milo is not talking about something else at the event. We are entering a world that mixes the wrong way which really means fun?

This new project from Microsoft has the hand of Peter Molyneux, one of the most influential personalities in the world of videogames, it was not a creator of games like Populous, Syndicate, Magic Carpet and Dungeon Keeper, even in the extinct Bullfrog, and latest in Black & White and Fable. Along with Project Christmas, was shown a virtual character, the boy Milo. Some controversy has already been installed, which questions whether this same "friend" virtual could someday replace personal relationships, or even, perhaps, our mind takes us to the film AI and the robot boy David to replace a child so desired. By coincidence or not, with Peter Molyneux in which the Christmas Project, was the famous director and North American director Steven Spielberg, director of AI.

In this tangle of issues and questions about Milo and Project Christmas, which went to Los Angeles to interview Peter Molyneux. Meeting scheduled in a hotel in downtown LA, we found a Peter Molyneux wants to share what your creative mind is bubbling. Was said in that meeting that he has taken the post of Creative Director of the European Microsoft Games Studios, but continues to be the Director of Lionhead Studios production. His new role involves overseeing the work of some producers and projects, such as Remedy and Rare with Alan Wake. Will try to take a position where these projects to one side more creative and innovative. But that night just wanted to know about Milo and Project Christmas.

"As we get closer to breathing the next breath of life our heroes of Fable II this May, while checking my achievements like the nerd I am on my Xbox profile, I noticed something new has been added. Achievements, and 13 of them to boot, carrying a stampede of 250 GS to be had. They give a bit of insight into the future of the eh… future, of Albion. Looks like Lionhead had a bit of badassery on their side when they wrote these bad boys up. It seems like taking cock shots and making sweet, sweet love is highly recommended if you want to raise the roof on your gamerscore.

Stop having a boring nutshot, stop having a boring life."

"Well, while it's not easy for me to absolutely confirm that, it would be pretty poor to say 'See the Future' if it didn't have some connection, wouldn't it? It would be kind of, 'See the Present,'" he said when asked specifically if the content had anything to do with the next Fable title."

'Don't think about Fable 2 as an RPG franchise-think about it as the world of Albion…There's a niche for Fable as there's humor in there and there's a Britishness and I think we'll keep that side of it. But whether it's more action or PRG or MMO or some new genre-that's what we have to do.'"

Brian Fleming, president of Sucker Punch, the studio behind June's dark super-hero game "Infamous," didn't believe it.

He'd heard this from Peter Molyneux, the outspoken head of Lionhead Studios, who said that players of the Xbox series "Fable," tended to steer their characters toward the side of angels. Technically, they could have made their characters evil and gained just as many benefits. But Molyneux said players ultimately preferred to complete their adventure as a good person.
Peter Molyneux admits he's one of those people, and as the founder of Lionhead, that was a particularly big problem in their first game, Black & White. When a journalist was interviewing him about the game, Molyneux got the idea to put in a realistic weather system. He got it into the game, but the game itself wasn't being worked on during that time; everybody was pitching in trying to get the weather right."

There's little doubt as to the four key titles that look set to dominate proceedings at this year's ELAN Awards, with Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3, Gears of War 2 and Fable II all nominated in the majority of the nine categories.

In with a chance of winning seven awards apiece are Valve's zombie shooter Left 4 Dead and Bethesda's dark future RPG Fallout 3, while Epic's FPS sequel Gears of War 2 and Lionhead's fantasy adventure Fable II are both up for six awards.

In fact, of the nine categories - which each contain four nominations - those exact four will battle it out in four, while other prominent titles to be nominated just once include Crysis: Warhead, Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria, Call of Duty: World at War and Too Human.

The awards, which also present prizes for the animation and visual effects industries, will take place in April and be hosted by the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants, Tom Kenny.

The full list of categories and nominations is as follows:

'Jamie our resident Senior Artists and Sculptor is selling some of his items on Ebay (probably to make space in the loft). One of the items that will undoubtely be of interest to any Fable II fan is this Hobbe Creature Mask (link) in Latex that can actually be worn by the owner,' reads the not on the Lionhead community site."
We’re tired of tacked-on gambling activities, awful fictional sports, and stale satires of classic arcade hits that dwell in the bowels of some of the best games ever.

Gears of War 2, we know, is a smashing success. But what of the other two games, Fable II and Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts?

Sales data released by the NPD Group today reveals that the games' experience on store shelves couldn't have been more diffierent. Fable II was a surprising success, by January 1 selling a respectable 1.2 million copies in the US. Not too shabby.

But Banjo? Seems Rare's stab at innovation by introducing customisable vehicles to the game was a flop with consumers, as the game had only sold a meagre 140,000 copies by new year's day."
When it was released, it was the fastest selling RPG on the Xbox 360 ever released, so the ELSPA is awarding the game with a "platinum status".

2008 was a big year. There were so many great games released that it's incredibly hard to decide which one deserves to be the Game of the Year… so that's why Ripten is going to make you do it. Have a gander at Ripten's nominees and let them know which game you think deserves top honors. Additionally, they want to spark some debate as they also want to know which of the nominees is least deserving of Game of the Year.

The best commenter (best arguments, most interesting or humorous comments - as decided by Ripten staff) will also be rewarded with a super awesome prize: a free game! Let your voice be heard!

The nominees are:

Left 4 Dead
Metal Gear Solid 4
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Grand Theft Auto IV
Fable II
LittleBigPlanet
Fallout 3
Gears of War 2

Destructoid writes: "According to an official announcement on the official Xbox website, Fable II's 'Knothole Island' DLC will not be hitting Xbox Live Marketplace until 'late January 2009' because of 'unexpected technical difficulties.' This marks the second delay of the content that was originally supposed to debut on December 12.

'Knothole Island' will introduce players to a new landmass with several new quests, items, properties, and enemies. The source of the problem could be tied into its nature – the developer of the content, Lionhead, were going to put two different versions out for consumers.

The premium version (800 Microsoft Space Dollars) would allow players full freedom with the content. The regular version (free) would restrict players from the vast majority of the 'Knothole Island' DLC unless they were with a friend who had purchased the content. One could certainly speculate that getting these two different downloads to work together may have been the source of the problem.

Because of the delay of the content, Microsoft has put a hold on their 'Knothole Island Download & Win Sweepstakes' which was intended to put players in a lottery to win decent prizes if they purchased and played the content between December 22 and 23. We were all eagerly awaiting this contest and are severely disturbed that it has been delayed."

Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux has revealed he wasn't overly concerned when he saw his latest title reduced to half its RRP only weeks after the game first hit stores.

UK video game retailer GameStation recently offered Fable II for only £19.57, but Molyneux noted that it's not just his game being reduced this winter.
Molyneux hints at Fable II digital release (News)

Peter Molyneux has hinted that Fable II could be made available as a full digital release on Xbox 360.

The Lionhead Studios boss refused to confirm any concrete plans, but told GamesIndustry.biz: "I think it would be a great thing for this studio to work on."

Pressed on whether there were already plans for the critically-acclaimed RPG to be made available over Microsoft's Live service, Molyneux said: "I can't say anything else on it – I would be killed to death."

Microsoft, which already offers full original Xbox titles for download via its Marketplace service, has never formally revealed intentions to make full retail 360 titles available, but industry watchers have long predicted this could happen later in the console's lifecycle.

Molyneux's enthusiasm for a digital release comes after the success of the original Fable, which was made available for download on 360 earlier this year as part of the Xbox Originals range.

"It did really, really well," he revealed. "It was one of the highest selling, if not the highest selling, [Xbox Originals title]. I didn't track that exactly, but I know a lot of people got very excited about it when it came out."

Fable II released in Europe on October 24 and topped the UK charts after its opening weekend.

Tracey John from MTV Multiplayer writes:

"For those of you who've played Fable II, you know the game is about the choices you make. For the most part, you're in control of how you want your player to end up - good or evil.

But there is one aspect beyond players' control… what happens when you unintentionally push the B button near loved ones.

Let me explain: In Fable II, players can assign different magic abilities to the B button. Many players, myself included, went with a power called "Inferno," a spell that allows the player-character to shoot fire from his/her hands.

When in the towns, you can interact with people and perform expressions to amuse them, even drawing large crowds to you. But in doing so, it's also easy to accidentally hit the B button when navigating the menus. And whatever spell you've assigned to that B button - well, you can guess what happens.

If you've had this problem too, you're not alone. There's a Facebook support group called the "Association of Accidental Arsonists." The description reads, "A support group for Fable II players who've set spouses, houses and mouses ablaze in err." Yesterday I found out who started this group."

Lionhead Studios has updated its blog site with news that the Fable II announcement that was promised this week, has been pushed back until Monday 24th November.

I know what you're thinking, but no, I'm afraid this is not the BIG news that got me (and most of you) so excited last week. The big bods over in Redmond decided that, this week wasn't the time to tell you what that announcement is we have ready here in Guildford. However, there is some good news. To celebrate the launch of the New Xbox Experience, we've created an all-new Fable II theme for your dashboard. Go show your Fable pride!
