Is Dead Rising a zombie game, or a GTA-esque, sandbox-style beat ‘em up with wall-to-wall undead, or a mash up of dozens of different gameplay styles that are more than the sum of their parts? You would do the game right to call it pretty much all of the above. But one thing that Dead Rising isn't is a mere open-world zombie-killing simulator. That's apparent in its highly structured storyline which remains wonderfully true to every single serious-toned zombie flick that George Romero ...

We grab a fistful of two-by-fours and go to town on a pile of zombies
Jul 10, 2006
Monday 10 July 2006 By now, we're all familiar with the premise of games like Dead Rising - any game featuring zombies is going to focus primarily on dropping the creeps in a desperate bid for survival. After just a couple of minutes with Dead Rising, however, it becomes clear that there is a lot more to it than just beating the not-living crap out of the walking dead (although there's still tons of that). The game opens with our hero Frank helicoptering into the sleepy, backwoods town of ...   » Read Full Dead Rising preview

Capcom has treated us to a new crowd of Dead Rising shots, the zombie smacking, photo snapping action game which will be out for 360 in December. The new shots show Frank West dispatching zombies, but also making use of the various resources that can be found in the shopping mall he's trapped in. He can be seen taking refreshment (drinking from the bottle!) in the supermarket and trying on different clothes available from numerous ...   » Read Full Dead Rising preview

We claw our way out from under a zombie dog-pile
Apr 14, 2006
The zombie apocalypse is coming and we all know it. Thankfully, 360 owners can look forward to a handy survival guide in the form of third-person undead-basher Dead Rising. As you waltz through a mall overrun by shuffling undead, everyday items that would ordinarily go unnoticed become ideal zombie-whompers. You control Frank, a no nonsense photojournalist who is as meaty as he is irritable. Frank, like most people we know, is kind of a rookie at zombie killin', but he gets better at it with ...   » Read Full Dead Rising preview

Let loose in a mall full of zombies with a madman's arsenal. As simple and fun as that
Mar 9, 2006
Plenty of movies have answered the question "what would we do if the dead rose from their graves?" Many games have, too. The problem is that the answers are all too often the same, thanks to how forcefully Resident Evil answered it the first time around. Though it comes from the same company that as that tense adventure game series, Dead Rising is more Shaun of the Dead than drama-soaked disaster - and all the better for it. The unimaginative have figured the easiest way to make an Xbox 360 ...   » Read Full Dead Rising preview
