So the rumour's been SMASHED. Activision Underground, who were supposedly working on a third-person Call of Duty game, weren't closed down because of a non-existent "exclusivity" deal Infinity Ward signed with Activision. And yet, closed down they were.
Word has begun spreading around, originating from Next-Gen.Biz, about Infinity Ward potentially looking to secure exclusive development of the Call of Duty franchise. As many COD fans should know, the games were originally spearheaded by the gang at Infinity Ward, as the first two games were developed by the team. Following COD2, Treyarch took the responsibilities of COD3, in addition to a few spin-offs, while Infinity Ward began work on Call of Duty 4.

Activision has announced today that the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare variety map pack has set a new record for the number of paid downloads on Xbox Live Marketplace - surpassing one million downloads in the first nine days since its release.
The Variety Map Pack on PS3 in North America will be available on Thursday, April 24. European release is scheduled on May 1st. Double XP weekend, for both PS3 and 360 users, will start on April 25 for North American Users, and May 2 for European users.

Geekpulp's Sock Merchant is reporting that the patch released along side the recent Variety Map Pack has inproved the matchmaking experience online. He writes - I have had very good connections for the most part since it was released. The latest patch was released at the same time as the new map pack. Give it a go if you liked you some COD4. If not, I'm sure I'll be killing you in a GTA IV in three weeks time.
