Rumors had been going around that Beautiful Katamari Damacy for the PS3 was canned. Famitsu magazine have confirmed today that, the game has been cancelled for the PS3.
IGN.com writes:
The world shook when news broke that Beautiful Katamari would be 360 exclusive, according to rumours. When Gamespot, on the very same day, posted a preview of the game and mentioned the Xbox live Arcade, it seemed all was explained. Now though, checking back to Gamespot sees all reference to the XBLA game gone.
GameersReport told you this weekend about a new exclusive game that MS snagged, Beautiful Katamari. Well, today they have the official info and first screenshots from the game for you. The game will be natively HD, and it will also feature an all-new soundtrack.
The next instalment in the much-loved Katamari Damacy series, Beautiful Katamari, will be released via Xbox Live Arcade later this year.
Silconera writes that "Originally Namco Bandai announced Beautiful Katamari as a Playstation 3 and an Xbox 360 game, but shortly after Namco Bandai's Editor's day N'Gai Croal mentioned on Level Up it was going to be an Xbox 360 exclusive. This isn't a rumor, he is absolutely right about Beautiful Katamari being a 360 exclusive. Check out Namco Bandai's fact sheet for Beautiful Katamari, it only mentions Xbox 360 as the platform."
Bob Workman of GameDaily XL writes: "Namco Bandai Games wanted to push for a big gaming year, and, boy, did it get it. The company held its annual Gamers' Day event this week at the Supperclub in beautiful San Francisco, and I was able to attend, along with my crazy AOL GameDaily cohort Libe Goad. Needless to say, the event was a blast, and brushed aside a few doubts on announced projects -- they rock just like the company said they would. "
Namco Bandai has remained quiet on rumours that Beautiful Katamari will be released exclusively on Xbox 360.
Xboxic has cooperated with OXM again to give the online community an early preview of upcoming material. The idea of the game hasn't changed too much from previous installments in the series: it revolves around a Prince and his Katamari, a rolling clump of objects. Starting out small, the idea is to roll over lots of different objects in the environment to pick them up and grow the ever more colorful ball. Each stage has its own bizarro objective, such as achieving a specific size for the katamari, or collecting a set amount of specific objects onto the ball.
Namco Bandai just announced Beautiful Katamari for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 last week, and more recently they have launched the official site for the game.
