Game music of the day: Katamari Damacy
GR's ongoing tribute to the beloved world of videogame music
Game: Katamari Damacy
Song: Katamari on the Rocks
Composer: Yu Miyake
Above: Katamari on the Rocks from Katamari Damacy
Look, I'm supposed to be on vacation today, so let's not make this any harder than it has to be. The themeof Katamari Damacyis a no-brainer for GMOTD - the Katamari series has consistentlyamazingsoundtracks. I don't think there's even a single so-so song in the entire Katamari catalog.
The OST for Katamari Damacy, called Katamari Fortissimo Damacy, pulls from a wide variety of musical influences (jazz, samba, J-Pop, traditional VGM), but still manages to be totally cohesive. It's catchy and energetic, and while not quite as wacky as the gameplay itself, definitely inhances said wackiness.Katamari on the Rocks is a great representation of the cheery spirit of Katamari's music.
