Blizzard Entertainment has just announced that World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will be releasing on December 7, 2010. The latest expansion for the MMO will introduce two new playable races: the goblins and worgen. Unlike previous expansions, which tack on new areas and content onto pre-existing ones, Cataclysm will bring big changes to the landscape of much of the game’s starting areas.

"Cataclysm includes the best content we've ever created for World of Warcraft. It’s not just an expansion, but a re-creation of much of the original Azeroth, complete with epic new high-level adventures for current players and a redesigned leveling experience for those just starting out," explains Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment in a prepared statement. "With the help of our beta testers, we're putting on the final polish, and we look forward to welcoming gamers around the world to enjoy it in just a couple of months."
The game will go on sale with a suggested retail price of $39.99 and will also be available at the Blizzard Store. However, the Collector’s Edition will only be on sale at retail stores for a suggested retail price of $79.99.
