Im not sure if this counts, but if you have a copy of Half life for the PC, go download http://www.moddb.com/mods/heart-of-evil . It takes several pointers from both heart of darkness and Apocalypse now, and manages to be an actually really good game.

Man I thought you could u dug a little deeper and pulled some books that have some weight behind them and even new perspectives like: Nights by Elie Wiesel/A hidding place by Corrie Ten Boom : Could give a different view of the holocaust. The Ides of March by Thornton Wilder: its around the great Roman Empire and could break up the the "Mass Effect" style dialog trees w/ colosium battles.

Does anyone else think that if any of those books were made into games they would die horribly at retail..

A Heart of Darkness game would be awesome!! And I know it's not a classic book but I wanna see the Bourne series made into a game. The Bourne Conspiracy doesn't count.

The story of The Heart of Darkness was decent enough, but it was written so very boringly (excuse me if that is not a recognized word). I also don't think it would make it good game.

Hahah, I just read The Heart of Darkness a few weeks ago - it would make a really interesting game.. While at camp before you set off searching for Kurtz, you can talk to the boys down at the offices who work for The Company. Find out why the Brickmaker isn't making any bricks because he supposedly doesn't have the right materials that are supposedly only found in Europe. Build up resources to continue down the river, and if you don't have enough food, you'll have to accept eating old hippo meat given to you from your cannibal steamship crew. While on the water, fend off attacks from the natives with your old Winchester rifle. Once you arrive, meet interesting people such as a half-crazed Russian trader who is friends with Kurtz...

How about Cosmic Banditos by AC Weisbecker? Drug Trafficor gets accused of being a terrorist so hides out in Central America. His drug trafficor friends have to become bandits to stay alive. Meanwhile his other friends have to escape the police and government forces. Finally becomes a born again Physicist after his bandit friends rob a Particle Physicist on holiday and they take his books. Spiritual journey to meet the family ensues. Lots of plane rides across the treetops, taxi racing, loads of shoot outs, grenades in steel drums and real philosophy. What is there not to like? And I am being serious. Just read the book. Sort of half life meets grand theft auto with a spinrkling of bioshock, with a pinch of Saints Row. Quite frankly the greatest read ever
