The Outsider

Attempting to work an inside job...

Jan 14, 2008

This game is for all those who love a good conspiracy thriller. The plot follows an ex-CIA agent framed for a crime he didn’t commit as he attempts to clear his name while avoiding being captured. Armed with an array of cutting-edge technology and weaponry, he must try to turn the tables on the shady organisations that have set him up.

While this might sound like the set-up for many a Syphon Filter-style action game, The Outsider is far more sophisticated than that. For instance, the game is set in a modern Washington DC recreated as a huge open city teeming with NPCs. Also solving the mystery isn’t as simple as battering spooks until you get answers. Instead you must work out how to play the various rival factions involved against each other. Lastly it has Elite creator David Braben involved in the development, which is always exciting news to us, no matter what you thought of Thrillville.

As of yet The Outsider hasn’t signed up with a publisher, but with stunning visuals and thought-provoking ideas it’s sure to be snapped up soon and could well surprise a lot of people this year.
