The Insatiable Moon review

Whale Rider’s excellent Rawiri Paratene bolsters this Kiwi crowdpleaser as Arthur, a mentally ill Maori convinced he’s the second son of God.

When his ‘care in the community’ boarding house is threatened with closure, Arthur’s rousing kerbside sermons spark an unlikely romance.

Unevenly directed by first-timer Rosemary Riddell (from her preacher husband’s novel), this is DIY filmmaking with more passion than finesse – but it’s original.

How many religious parables make their point with creative swearing, gallows wit, and even a God-bothering sex scene?
