Kenji Saito, he has a pretty kickass name if you ask me. That he has also taken part in purely awesome games doesn't hurt either.
It's a wee bit disappointing that Kojima won't be even overseeing the story, (The one thing Platinum kinda sucks at.) but this looks right on track to be a blissfully fun game. That, and i really hope that having the MG brand on it will help it sell, it's about bloody damn time platinum had a break.

That is strange, everything I'd read up till now said that he WAS overseeing the story, and now this :/ Ah well, it's not like the last few Metal gear stories were as simple as Bayonetta's :P
So yeah, what everyone else has said, Bayonetta's the best game ever and now this will be too :D

:( NO STEALTH? The one thing I had been looking forward to ever since Raiden in MGS2 (and VR Ninja Missions in Integral) was the opportunity to stealth camo cyborg ninja a bunch of fools. Now, I LOVE Platinum, and having gone through Bayonetta's stellar one-on-one sword battles, I can see this game being excellent.
But still - no STEALTH?!

I mentioned my doubt of them incorporating it in another recent Rising article... but still hoped they'd at least acknowledge it, which I'm glad they did. I guess at this point we fans either shun the game, or be thankful a brilliant developer stepped up to provide us with -something.- Something that'll still be wonderful in its own rite I'm sure.

As a fan of the series who's completed all non-handheld metal gear games I think I understand why many people are extremely skeptical about this new installment into the metal gear universe. The reason why metal gear is unique and stands out so much in comparison to other games is because it is a very unique game. the games reward patience, create urgency in every situation, and reward you for playing the game differently than other games. One of the most challenging (and rewarding) experiences is attempting the game without killing anyone. Metal gear rising doesn't bring any of this. It's the typical third person action game rehashed with the metal gear universe thrown in. The original idea for metal gear rising when it was a concept was that it would still feature a stealth mechanic, but a mechanic more suitable to Raiden. I won't argue that Bayonetta wasn't successful or fun or that Platinum games is a terrible company (Clover studios made okami one of my all time favorite games) but if MGR is going to be a Bayonetta or Vanquish then it will be a disappointment. Metal gear is so good because it is different, because it rewards smart, conscientious play so well and intuitively, and because it presents unique challenges in ways that are unusual and entertaining. I don't want Raiden to use Snake's stealth; waiting, learning (and remembering for all time) soldier's routes, and hiding bodies, but removing stealth completely can ONLY be a bad thing for this game. You shouldn't want Metal gear to turn into Bayonetta or Vanquish, you should want it to be something that other games aren't. A third person fast paced action game is fun, but it's like watching Crank. It may have flashy action scenes and great fighting, but it's forgettable and lacks depth. If Metal Gear Rising becomes a graded stage clear game with nothing but quipy cutscenes and one liners I would consider it a failure. Being able to cut people into 400 pieces isn't going to make this game amazing, but a strong story, good unique gameplay, and good execution will.

I think he's absolutely right. The perfect example was RE4 and what happened to that game it won game of the year and scored a perfect 10 in almost every magazine on every system. And for u people that suffer w the xbox360 that never played mgs4 u have no idea what ur missing,I just got done beating it again yesterday and is still one of my top3 games of alltime plus it still blows my mind this game was made close to 6 yrs ago and shots on everything by 360 w the exception of mayb Gears 3.I can't count how many times playing thru mgs4 I sat and watched wishing I could play as that badass Raiden,I can't wait for this game to come out .Also to all the whiners about the lack of steath that its just a hack n slash, what's more steathy then a blade??
But finally for all u hardcore Metal gear solid fans its been noted tons of times THIS IS NOT MGS5 this is just a metalgear Raiden spinoff.

Funny, for a guy who appears to want to be the voice of reason in this debacle, you've written what is easily the most childish and embarrassing rant I've seen on the topic.
Admittedly, I'm highly skeptical of awkwardly titled Revengeance (seriously, that title is just awful). Everything from the graphics to the game mechanics seem to have been severely downgraded into generic and completely unremarkable hack and slash territory. The game now has the visual appeal and presentation of a first wave 360 title like Bulletwitch rather than looking and feeling like a current-gen Metal Gear title. But hey, if dull middling button mashers are your "best case scenario" for game development, at least you're setting yourself up to be pleasantly surprised by the future of the industry. If only we were all so happy to be inundated with mediocrity.

After seeing it, and thinking about it, it's obvious Platinum aren't going to be taking this too seriously- hence 'Reveangance'. I'm super excited about this, even if it IS a huge departure from the other Metal Gear games, Since I LOVED Bayonetta, and both Madworld and Anarchy Reigns look ridiculously awesome.
One thing I am a little confused about is how Jack still has his Cyborg Ninja mode- wasn't that removed after 4? Unless this takes place between 4 and the epilogue... Or his suit's, like removable.
Anyway, on the whole, I feel even better about this NOW than I did LAST year at it's E3 'reveal'. Platinum can NOT screw this up- it's perfect for them.
Also, love the new art style for the lettering, and the metal soundtrack. I'm totally pumped for it.

Now that Kojima's schedule has been cleared up after handing developing duties over to Platinum, maybe he can get started on ZOE 3 now? Please?
Come on, MGS4 concluded literally everything in the universe, so a MGS5 is unnecessary.

Why do so many hate the word revengeance? I like it. There's no way to ever truly know, but I wonder how many people hate it because everyone else says they hate it.
And it'll just be another average hack and slash? It'll lack story and the "feel" of the Metal Gear universe? It's incredible how people can know that from glancing AT A TRAILER! One lone trailer!
Jeez, for fans of the past games many people seem to go from love to hate awfully fast without reason.
Kojima productions had the humility to realize they couldn't make this style of game well enough and, while still being involved in the plot and character, handed it to a developer with a track record for making some of the best games of the last few years of the style they're going for. Seems smart to me.
But looking at a trailer and thinking you know the entire game and it's quality...that's idiotic.

I'm sorry, but Revengeance as a title is indefensible. It's reduntant as all hell, as "revenge" and "vengeance" basically mean the same thing. It almost sounds like a word Stephen Colbert would invent, like "Lincolnish" or "Filliam H. Muffman". Not to mention it just sounds engrish-y. It is something a non native english speaker thought sounded extreme and awesome, but comes off as goofy to anyone with an understanding of the language.
The whole point of a trailer (a gameplay trailer, at that) is to give the viewer an impression of what the experience of playing the game is going to be like. They're trying to sell you on the game, and the trailer is basically saying "here's what we've got in store for you if you buy this game". People forming an opinion based on a trailer is not "idiotic".
I personally don't have a 100% positive impression of the newest trailer because it shows a shift in tone from the older ones. This game originally looked like a unique experience that you couldn't get anywhere else. Now, judging from the newest bits of gameplay we've been shown, it looks like yet another entry in the Devil May Cry/Bayonetta/God of War style of games, albeit with Metal Gear window dressing.
I don't mind the "extreme" take on the Metal Gear universe. Heck, I welcome it, and I'm sure that I'll enjoy the game when it comes out. That said, I'm sure I'll have the nagging question of "how would it have been if they'd stuck with the original concept" in the back of my head the whole time, much like I did with Resident Evil 4.
