Street Fighter x Tekken: Every screen and video in one place

So Street Fighter x Tekken has been officially announced (along with Namco's Tekken vs. Street FIghter, but we're slightly less excited about that at the moment). And you want to see it, don't you? So did we, so this morning we've tracked down every piece of worthwhile media available, comprising the announcement trailer, gameplay footage and a boatload of screenshots.

We were excited about the idea of this before. We're a lot more excited about the reality of it now. So read on for every video and pic you need to see, as well as a bit of insight. From us. Because we love you.

The announcement trailer

For all the apocalyptic badassery on show, it's good to see the Street Fighter IV sense of humour is still there. The tongue-lolling, google-faced Dan will always be the franchise whipping boy.

The gameplay

Admit it. You punched the air and let out a little yelp at 1:46, didn't you? We did. It's not yet clear exactly how the tag system will work. It could be that it's a sort of Ultra-Ultra system whereby both character's moves are tagged together automatically (without any HUD bars on screen it's hard to tell exactly how it'll be charged up), or it could be that the assist character merely provides a set-up for the main character to get in a free hit (in which case you should be thinking about an Ultra anyway). We'd prefer the latter, but it remains to be seen just how SFxT's power bar hierachy will be stacked up.

But it's great to see even at this early stage how well Capcom seems to have blended Street Fighter and Tekken's different gameplay styles without really losing the essense of either. This is clearly a Street Fighter IV-derived game, but the big combos and juggles definitely seem to feel at home. The big question though, is how Tekken characters will deal with Street Fighter's projectiles. Will they get any of their own to balance things out? Or will they get to side-step around them?

There definitely seems to be a heavy Tekken influence in the background scenery as well, with huge robots laying waste to an apocalyptic battleground. How the combined storyline will play out will be very interesting to see.

The screens

So, there you have it. Everything there currently is to see. Are you convinced this cross-over is going to work now? Or are you a staunch fan of either series still not sure it'll gel? And if you're down with Street Fighter x Tekken, which characters from each series do you want (bearing in mind we're not limited to any particular entry here), and what would be your dream match-ups? Let us know in the comments, or lay the opinionating beat down on our social portals on Facebook and Twitter.

  • philipshaw - July 27, 2010 10:39 a.m.

That gameplay looked amazing for a game that is a couple of years out (probably) I want to see King

Love the way Tekken fighting translates here, as well as the art style. Kazuya looks damn cool. And Nina just looks plain hot. But that is one badass combining of the Ultra moves. I'll buy a PS3 or 360 or whatever it takes to get this!

Absolutely Bad ASS!! The Gameplay video was exciting to watch!

The trouble will be making the Tekken characters different enough from eachother to be worth adding. Although no 2 characters are the same in Tekken 6 (except Kuma/Panda) once they have their movelists stripped down to better fit the SF gameplay style, each character would still need to bring something unique to the experience. The characters i'd want to see (from Tekken) are- Yoshimitsu (which outfit tho? T6 2P for me), Jack, Bryan, Feng, Alisa, Law, Paul, King & Marduk. Those are my faves. But do we need both Anna & Nina? Hwoarang & Baek? King & Armour King? I don't think so, but some Tekken fans are sure to be disappointed.

wonder if they will do Capcom vs SNK. Ive been seeing scans of it but not sure if its official or fake. Tekken characters looks way better with the SF4 art style.
  • R3DRUN - July 26, 2010 7:11 p.m.

Fighting games have definably made a comeback especially with this mash-up. If I wanted my comeback, I would need to wipe it off my screen right about now.

@GamesRadarDavidHoughton I think the projectile problem is already shown in the video. when the fight starts, the first thing Ryu does is throw a Hadouken and you can see Kazuya duck under it, unless if its just a glitch and because the game is not finished like when Ryu falls on the ground and the next screen is him diving forward without any transition screens which only leads me to believe the game is not finished
  • buminyaface - July 26, 2010 7:01 p.m.

ewwwwww, why did they make kazuya look so disgusting D: im pretty sure hes not that old, and his scars arent that purple

What up with the transformer in the background of the gameplay? Nina looks great in that style. Like, great.
  • MetalGearFlaccid - July 26, 2010 2:06 p.m.

  • iKOemos - July 26, 2010 11:45 a.m.

"For the love of God press start"!!!! I want this so badly. I'm still interested in seeing Tekken vs. Street Fighter although the art style and presentation isn't as nearly as wonderful as this game's.
