The Star Wars 9 release date is now May 24, 2019

The release date for Star Wars 9 is May 24, 2019. Disney and Lucasfilm made the announcement on the official Star Wars site along with the above teaser image, also re-confirming that director Colin Trevorrow is leading work on the film.

So far, we know more about what won't be in Star Wars 9 than will be, or rather who. Lucasfilm has definitively stated that the late Carrie Fisher will not appear in Star Wars 9, ruling out any possibility of re-using existing footage or editing in a CGI double like in Rogue One. Directed by Rian Johnson and starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro, and more, Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15, 2017.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
