Sims 3 announced for consoles: PC owners pout... probably

Shares

In news that might surprise, oh, a good fourteen people, EA announced today that the formerly PC exclusive Sims 3 is coming to 360, PS3 and Wii this Autumn. Seeing as the 'franchise' <shudder> is the most successful in gaming history, you could say the little virtual people arriving on next-gen consoles is a big deal. But honestly, we don't know if we really care.

While news that PS3 and 360 gamers 'will be more connected than ever before as they share creations, downloadable content and even trophies and achivements by connecting to Facebook' sounds nice and all, you can still tarnish us with the m'eh brush.

Above: Seemingly the console versions of Sims 3 has fridge-worshipping cults. Good to know

Mapping complex RTS controls to pads, even when its trying to get your Sim laid or take a dump, rather than coordinate complex military strategies, is a tricky business. And until we have proof EA can nail this, we'll remain a bit dubious. Although we won't deny the promised 'Karma Powers' that let 'deviant players curse their Sims with an epic fail' sound pretty sweet.

Above: Hmmm, wonder if we can set her ablaze with lighter fluid? No wait... that's Hitman: Blood Money. Dang

Wii owners are also being promised an exclusive beach town, with 'unqiue residents, traits, careers and lifetime wishes'. Of greater interest (well, it's a tiny bit more interesting) are the new 'Life Moments'. This feature will let players earn rewards by putting them up against each other in adventure quests that challenge them to 'explore their town and discover the secrets within'.

Above: Feel free to insert your own borderline-inappropriate-for-work caption here. Just don't drag us down with you

But don't let our jaded ways colour your views. How do you feel about the Sims 3 coming to consoles? Are you so excited you plan to take the rest of the day off and toast the announcement with six or seven beers? Couldn't give a fish's tit? Either way, let us known in the comments section.

Let's hope it isn't like Sims 2 Which was very bad on Last Generation Consoles.

I enjoyed the sims 3 really briefly. it is at least a lot better programmed AI-wise than 2... did get bored in the end. that fridge photo is so genius it made me want to share my own amateurish attempts at sims based comedy... http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/album.php?aid=8469&id=100000321277149 i conducted a social experiment to see what would happen if characters from the mario games were forced to readjust to normal society, featuring guest appearances from larry david, seinfeld's kramer, doctor manhattan (easiest character to make in the game)and various whiny final fantasy protaganists.... until i got bored and played something where i could kill things without so much planning in advance

i played Sims 1 and 2 briefly that others owned, and i am planning on getting a version at some point (prob 3) which i wont dedicate my life to but will play... but i did buy Sims 2 on gamecube many years back...i literally put it in, found out you controlled the Sims with direct control and turned off within 5 minute4s...put away and the very next day took it back for a refund...one of the only games i have never regreted taking back Sims does not belong on consoles- Period.

Never played any Sims game really. I may rent it just to torture my people or whatever it is that you control

Haven't EA made maximum money from this franchise yet?! I'm not a huge fan of the sims although I do think the original sims is still the superior game.

Can I get a 'yay' for control freak-ism? Anybody? Guys? ...hello?

I bet it's limited to 1 level like the other console versions.

We had the arms race. Now its the games race or something. Consoles being the battlefield whilst the PC lives in harmony and peace. At the moment, EA is a juggernaut and you guys probably know why =/

I never gave two shits about The Sims: 1. I don't need a game that demands more time than it takes to finish the single player campaign. There are too many other games to play. 2. Games are about stuff you WOULDN'T do in real life, like killing people in all kinds of quiet and loud ways, and exploring strange lands, buildings, seas and outer space. Those who do care: have fun!
