Silent Hill

The monsters from the first game appear to be warped versions of the creatures from children's fairy tales.

think i need to buy the HD collection. I haven't played these games in over 10 years. great article.
  • patbateman17 - March 15, 2012 1:50 p.m. Have to hand it to the game's writers and creative talent, these are (mostly) brilliant. The game takes on a whole different style when you understand the psychology behind it. Either that, or it's all a dog's fantasy and everything is just fucked.

Seems to me like Silent Hill 2's enemies have the deepest, most meaningful, and most disturbing reasons for existence. This is why 2 is the best in the series. It did away with the order and all of that crap, and had a storyline that was simply a dive into the psyche of a deeply disturbed individual. I wish more of the games would do away with The Order storyline and do that. Downpour looks promising, but I haven't played it yet.

I really like this article. I'm buying the HD collection As soon As I can.

ooooh yeah, the memories. Grey Children were the most disturbing enemies i had ever seen in games. of course, there were many more later on. i love Silent Hill's disturbing creatures. best in horror, right after Amnesia. propably have to get this HD collection.

For me the creepiest enemy was the Playstation 3 and it's lack of trophies for Homecoming. And it represents laziness...

Silent Hill 4's giant Eileen face! It didn't need mention... it's right fucking behind you!

Personally, I've never played Silent Hill, mainly for the fact I would probably shit myself. The one thing I wondered about was that split face thing. It was on some of the screen shots of a game. What the hell was that thing all about?

2 seemed to have the most well thought out enemies I thought, they represented the character's inner demons. That's why it bugged me a bit seing some of them in the sequels.

Does anyone else think The Order is a sort of disappointing explanation for stuff? I wish they'd forgotten about it for SH3. If you put a human face on an otherworldly nightmare, it sort of...kills the whole feeling.

I really wished you hadn't published this article. It now makes me even more sad looking at the pathetic boring enemies in Downpour.
  • RedHarlow - March 16, 2012 12:21 p.m.

This is one reason I love the Silent Hill games. The enemies represent the characters deepest inner feelings and fears, and in such a gruesome way.
