As with fellow cult thesp Bruce Campbell, Robert Englund is rarely able to resist the chance to talk about his famous cinematic outings and, since we’re living in a world where every other film is seemingly a remake, he naturally gets asked a lot about a possible return to the world of A Nightmare On Elm Street.
You might think the franchise has long been buried, but since when did Freddy stay dead that easily? And rumours have been floating for ages about another go around for the knife-wielding, dream-inhabiting, teen-slaughtering loon, whether it be paired with another horror icon or shoved into Mr Remake’s Crank-Powered Redo Machine.
“I don’t know if it’s going to be Nightmare on Elm Street the original remake-which is not a bad idea, especially with the success of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween- get some new director to breathe new life into it,” he gassed to Fearnet. “Texas Chainsaw Massacre the original was great and the original Halloween was great and some people even think that the original Nightmare On Elm Street is the best of them all. I don’t know if you’d want to remake it but it all happens sooner or later. There have been some spin-offs talked about with Freddy and Jason and Michael Myers which is interesting but maybe that’s kind of silly. Maybe one was enough.”
We hope so. For more from Englund and his thoughts on a prequel, head over to Fearnet .
