Red Dead Redemption - Life in the West

Liberty City with Bears! That’s a genuinely enthusiastic way we’ve taken to describing Red Dead Redemption. Sure, Rockstar’s whipped their traditional brand of stank on the fledging cities, where you’ll find missions, gamble, engage in commerce, or simply dispense some hot-leaded justice.

Yet, it’s the spaces in between that are the very definition of "lawless." True to the times, just because these vast landscapes are devoid of all civility doesn’t mean they’re not teeming with cool shit to do.

Our favorite part about the game thus far is the vicious unpredictability that occurs in between the dusty towns generally associated with traditional Western games, which the trailer above does a great job showcasing. Moving from dusty towns to snowcapped mountainsides, you’ll encounter all manner of thieves, rustlers, as well as some violent runoff from a Mexican civil war.

Best of all, the frontier is populated by majestic beasts with a thirst for your blood. Bears, buffalo, cougars, coyotes, pigs - you name it. Hunt them, eat them, and sell their pelts for cash. Not sure why, but it’s the throwback to Oregon Trail alone that has us ridiculously excited for Red Dead Redemption, currently set for release in mid May. Read more about the game here.

The moment I heard about this game, I was excited. And with this video, my excitement has grown tenfold. I've always wanted a really good western game and it looks as if this game is going to give that game to me! Already have it pre-ordered and I'm itching to play it!

I have been waiting for this game my entire life...

Is it just me, or does anyone else see Johnny Klebitz going through a time portal from GTA4:TL&TD to Red Dead Redemption? They look so similar, and from what I could hear, both characters sound the same.

I like the Lion King reference up top... oh, and I'm also looking forward to this: "exeunt, pursued by a bear."

Lion King reference is nice. This game looks amazing. Feels like Gun mixed with GTA.

When I saw this, it immediately made me horny. Very few games can do that to me, and I just know that RDR will be something special. Mark my words, RDR will be a masterpiee in the gaming...

This game is finally going to give me what was missing in GTA IV; natural landscapes! Can't wait to drag bandits in the dirt with the lasso :D

@whiteknight1981 I am most excited about the freedom in such games, go where I want, do what I want, travel how I want including the inclusion of public transport, kill who I want, basically do as I wish and live with the consequenses.
  • TheBoz - March 18, 2010 3:49 p.m.

I want this to be out already
  • FreekinIdiot - March 18, 2010 2:57 p.m.

I'm more excited about this than I was for GTA4. Can't wait to get chased by a bear! er, the animal variety, not the big bearded homosexual variety.

If this trailer shows anything, this'll be even more detailed than GTAIV ever was.

You know those lame videos you always had to watch in high school science classes with the crappy voice over? Thats what this voice over guy sounds like!
  • whiteknight1981 - March 17, 2010 9:37 p.m.

Being a family man, I have to pick and choose what games I get, and this is definitely getting my hard earned money! My fingers are crossed so hard I've broken them in three places that this game is as fun to play as it is fun to watch. PLEASE BE GOOD ROCKSTAR. What is everyone most excited about? I think lassoing animals and criminals is what I'm most excited about.
  • chrisat928 - March 17, 2010 8:29 p.m.

This game couldn't be farther away from Red Dead Revolver, and it's FANTASTIC!
