Dave Mirra BMX Challenge

It's certainly challenged

This is a dull BMX game, ruined by a fiddly control system and bad collision detection. It’s got tricks, races and large, free-roaming environments, but it’s just so flaky. It’s a shame, as the presentation is decent enough, with some nice looking menus, and there aren’t exactly loads of BMX games out there. But with Tony Hawk already doing a decent job on PSP, why would anyone go for this more awkward two-wheeled equivalent?

Dave falls off his bike convincingly enough, with some good ragdoll effects, but when it keeps happening time and again and you know you avoided that curb this time, you’ll be reaching for something - anything - else very quickly. And why do other bikers always perform the same tricks at the start of a race? Is that scripted to make the game look good? Probably, yes.
