paras and parasects names aren't based off the city of paris. it's a play on the word parasite. which is actually what makes parasect the creepiest pokemon in the series. it's a parasitic fungus that uses the corpse of an insect to move around.

lol you guys fucked up you facts about Ho-Oh appearing in the first episode. Ho-oh was a promo for Gold/Silver. The anime first aired in late 1997 and Gold/Silver were plan to release early 1998, but was delayed until 1999. The West didn't get Gold/Silver until 2000.

Hate to be the one to tell you, but yes, Ho-oh first appeared in the first episode of the anime. Right near the end, as the storm is breaking, Ash sees Ho-oh for a brief moment before it vanishes. I remember this moment clear as day. Ho-oh is then seen again in the episode where Ash visits that dude in the lighthouse. There is a stone carving of the legendary pokemon on the wall that Ash asks him about.

"It’s only a matter of time before we find a Wii U in our rooms." It has already happened as of today...

Could've pointed out in red or blue you can/could have gotten a flying or surfing Rydon or kangaskhan without a gameshark... Missingno or 'M could each learn fly or surf and though i can't recall what one, each evolved into one of the two but not either it was specific(of course not in yellow unless traded after as Missingno/M was removed).

How about the direct mentioning of the 1964 moon landing in the Pewter Town Museeum in Red/Blue?

Here's some name-based trivia: - Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee are named after Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee, repectively (I read that out of some official handbook 10 years ago) - Shiftry's Japanese name is Datengu. It's name and appearance (pointed nose, sandal-like feet, fan-hands) are based off of Japanese spirits called tengu, which are mischevious, long-nosed demons

Shout out to the Pico. That kept 4 year old me entertained for some time with the lion king game.

Going back to Pokemon relating to real life. I remember the animated series in one episode relating to cats with cat nip. Think Misty mentions it. Always thought that was odd

I remember eating those poptarts. They were okay, but the sprinkles always made me giggle, maybe it was the color chemicals in them. I should have saved a box to have for my collection now. :(

I have that skateboard. I got it 9 or 10 years ago and it was the coolest.

God those musketeers legendaries are the WORST
  • shawksta - October 10, 2013 3:37 p.m.

Rotom? Pulseman? Sure I guess, but the better resemblance is with the Steel/Dark Bisharp or ateast the resemblance to Pulseman's rival. Speaking of Smash Bros. It's inevitable Sakurai will reveal something or someone to coincide with X and Y, wonder who it is, or he'll ruse us and not do anything.
  • PlainLikeVanilla - October 10, 2013 2:55 p.m.

I ate so many of those Poptarts.
  • JarkayColt - October 10, 2013 12:45 p.m.

Yay, I think I spotted at least 5 additions, lawls. Oh, but why Parasect in particular for the last slide? Y'know, quite a lot of Pokémon do that, actually. For example, Ponyta can apparently clear Ayer's Rock and the Eiffel Tower. Poliwrath can swim the length of the Pacific Ocean. Mew was discovered in South America. Regice was made using ice from the Antartic. There's a couple other mentions of China, e.g. with Arcanine and a bunch of others I can't remember. Most seem to be from the first gen though.

Prolly just to state the information of what Parasect is x3
  • J-Fid - October 10, 2013 12:35 p.m.

Did you guys even add anything new?
  • GR_HenryGilbert - October 10, 2013 12:47 p.m.

We mixed in five new ones: Parasect, waffles, Pico, SNES, Herman Cain
  • J-Fid - October 10, 2013 1:03 p.m.

Oh...I'm thinking it might be hard to realize that if one knew all those things like I did. Also, the mixing probably added to my confusion. Regardless, I used to buy those waffles for breakfast, they were so cool! How about the Fruit-by-the-Foot promotion, that sometimes gave out a gold boarded Meowth card. I remember getting one and not knowing what to think of it, so I just kept it. Still have it.
