Nintendo x Vans NES-inspired shoe collection hits US retail on Friday

Vans will release its Nintendo Entertainment System inspired line of footwear and apparel in the US on Friday, June 3 and throughout the month elsewhere in the world. The shoes probably won't make you jump any higher, but they will let the world know you were a fan of the mustachioed plumber back when he wore red overalls.

The collection includes designs with sprites from Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Duck Hunt, as well as homages to the design of the NES itself. Vans' Authentic, Classic Slip-On, Sk8-Hi, and Old Skool shoe models will all be part of the collection, and each one will feature special soles on the bottom reading "Game Over!" in a pixelated font. Vans also plans to sell T-shirts, socks, hats, backpacks, and bags that tie in with the shoe designs.

If you're worried about a console-release style rush, you can sign up for notification of when and where the collection will be available on Vans' website. Then you can wear them while you watch Nintendo stream The Legend of Zelda for Wii U all day at E3.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
