New trailer for Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close

A new trailer has been released for Stephen Dalrdy’s post-9/11 drama Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close , and it's got “UPLIFTING JOURNEY” written all over it in the sort of magic marker Hollywood traditionally breaks out for Oscar season.

Adapted from the novel by Jonathan Safran Foer, Tom Hanks plays an office worker killed in the twin towers on 9/11, leaving behind his wife (Sandra Bullock) and their preternaturally intelligent son Oskar (Thomas Horn).

Trying to make sense of his father’s death, young Oskar becomes obsessed with the notion that his father has left him a message somewhere in the city, via a strange key without a lock.

Take a look at the new trailer below…

It might just be a heavy-handed trailer, but we can’t help worrying that Foer’s unusual and insightful book is going to be transformed into a run-of-the-mill Hollywood tear-jerker, stuffed full of  life lessons and twinkly-eyed wisdom.

Still, given the calibre of cast that Daldry has attracted (Max Von Sydow, Viola Davis and John Goodman are among the supporting players), perhaps the trailer gives the finished article a bad rep. Horn in particular looks a decent choice as Oskar, appearing to have captured his unsettlingly inquisitive personality down to a tee.

Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close
will arrive in UK cinemas on 3 February 2012.
