Medal of Honor trailer is emotional

We thought that EA's big focus for Medal of Honor was the fact you get to play as a Tier 1 operative - the ultimate special forces team. Imagine our surprise then, when the latest trailer instead deals with the emotional side of war - a man leaving an answer phone message for his loved ones at home while he's on duty in the badlands of Afghanistan.

The really odd thing is bar the odd 15 seconds of 'pay-off' at the end of the trailer, there's zero shooting action. It's all moody, pensive rangers preparing to disembark a helicopter in a sun bleached desert. And no obvious signs of the gruff looking ZZ Top-a-like from the box art. Interesting EA. Very interesting. And slightly weird.

@Tikicobra I have one phrase to describe you dude, heartless a**hole. that is all
  • Skykid - May 7, 2010 8:47 p.m.

And GR, Rangers do some of the dirty stuff Tier 1 does, so thats why there's a trailer about it

That trailer was a tearjerker, made me cry. And JoeMasturbaby, the dude on the front cover is a super-undercover black ops sodier. And Frootata, that's the whole idea behind black ops, its an unsanctioned, illegal military operation that no one on the outside world knows about. So if the UN doesn't know about it, they don't give a damn.

@ChuckB: Maybe everyones worst nightmare comes true and al-Qaeda gets a nuke in the game? Or maybe they do what the mujahadeen did in Afghanistan against the Soviets...and against us now...who knows

@Tikicobra Unless EALA can think of some story that makes al-Qaeda much more dangerous then what they currently are.

I'm assuming that guy talking on the phone is one of the main characters. If so then there's a good chance he will actually get home. :-P Considering that modern wars are far less violent and have WAY fewer casualties than, say, World War II, I feel like this trailer didn't have as much emotional impact as it would have if this were a World War II game.

Spoiler: you actually play as a homeless vietnam vet.

Loved it. Oh and db1331 thats fucked up. This was a pretty awesome teaser trailer. If they go for a slightly less action packed game with a killer story I would be happy.

What the trailer didn't show was that his wife couldn't answer the phone because she was busy screwing his best friend in the back bedroom while his daughter watched Dora the Explorer in the next room.

If they ctually make a side-story like mw2 did, but longer, this can be good.
  • bluscorp - May 6, 2010 10:17 a.m.

"I love you, I'll be home soon" Why do I get the feeling that's not going to happen.
