Mass Effect 2 PlayStation 3 demo launches

Demo to include three memorable missions from the epic space RPG

PlayStation 3 owners are about to get a taste of Mass Effect 2. The demo is live on the PlayStation Network for North American audiences and is scheduled to launch on Wednesday, December 22 in Europe.

The demo will put players in the role of Commander Shepard and will feature three memorable missions from the epic RPG. According to publisher Electronic Arts, “This includes the game’s shocking and thrilling opening sequence, the investigation of a planet whose inhabitants have disappeared and a mission to help recruit one of the most memorable characters in the franchise, Mordin Solus, to your squad.”

Mass Effect 2 for the PlayStation 3 will ship to stores on January 18, 2011 in North America and on January 21, 2011 in Europe. The fashionably late PlayStation 3 version will come with bonus DLC missions, including the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC pack. It will also include Mass Effect Genesis, an interactive comic from Dark Horse Comics and BioWare, which will help new players get up to speed with the current state of the galaxy in the Mass Effect universe.

To everyone who has not played Mass Effect 2 yet, we feel that it is our duty to inform you that Tali is the best; you should make sure to have the handy machinist in your party whenever possible. Glad to hear they gave PS3 users a meaty demo. That's awesome and I bet pretty big for a demo.

Samara and Thane are the coolest but id say hands down Garrus is the best maybe Miranda but old Fishbowl head? no chance

I wonder how much Martin Sheen is getting paid for all this voice work. I also think it's very unfair that PS 3 owners are able to get this with all the dlc content free. I mean it must have cost about 30 Euro or so for the dlc content on xbox live.

ME2 is kinda a social experiment Jacob and Miranda are a smooth sexy black guy and sexy british chick. but Jake is boring and Miranda's a dick. Garrius and Tali are your friends and they're both shy sweathearts, but one looks like a dog and the other you can't see so you choose them because you like them personally. Thane and Jack are the dark brooding badass type, not pretty but you pick them if your attracted to a dark side. The Asari is just lame now that there are more aliens you could choose from.

great update for the store, (even if its not updated yet) ME2 demo, DS 2 demo, LBP 2 demo, BFBC:Vietnam, and the finale of season two the tester. yea i like that show, there i said it.

I just got the demo. I've been curious about Mass Effect for a while, RPG sounds good, FPS not so much. Now I'll be able to try it and see how I like the balance, if I can put aside my general dislike for FPSs like I did for Bioshock and Fallout 3.

@whiteknight: "Middle of the day" is different depending on where you live. And it's supposed to be out today, the PSN Store updates on Tuesdays. As of this post, the store just hasn't updated yet. Sometimes it doesn't happen til late. No biggie.

What the, recommending Tali as 'the best' to take on missions? Tali useless outside of situational missions where your only enemies are either the Geth or Mechs. I wouldn't suggest using her as a regular squad member.

I'm with RicePuddingUK. You just gotta play through the whole thing to truly get the full effect of Mass Effect. And they have the opening, Freedom's Progress, and recruiting Mordin? That's a hell of a demo.

Shame the PS3 owners can't get the original, no amount of Comics or "Story So Far" cutscenes can match playing it for real, I remember all the revelations, betrayals and plot twists.
