Madman genius converts hundreds of classic Gamecube and Wii screens into tearfully beautiful 3D, gives 3DS new purpose

Hoe. Lee. Crap. This is one of the most spellbinding things I've seen in ages. If you ever need a justification for the worth of homebrew fan ingenuity, this is it. If you're feeling suicidal and need to see something beautiful enough to give you a reason to go on living, this is it.

A rather spectacular lunatic by the name of Eighteen has taken literally hundreds of screens from the prettiest Wii and Gamecube games around and converted them to 3D. His purpose? Putting them on a .rar file that you can download, extract the contents of, and stuff your lucky, lucky 3DS SD card to the gills with. The screens are easily viewable with the 3DS camera's photo viewer, and yikes are they a stunning taste of what's to come on Nintendo's sparkly little handheld. Forget the crap launch-window game blues. Myself and Justin have just been looking at the Super Mario Galaxy screens and gurgling about the potential of the recently announced Super Mario 3DS game.

We still weep.

Join us.

Other games involved in this experiment to determine the wonderment threshold of the human mind? How about F-Zero GX in 3D? Resident Evil 4? Smash Bros? Tatsunoko vs. Capcom? Muramasa? The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker? You're salivating now, aren't you? And there are stacks more than that. Just click here, download the folder, extract the screens, and stick them on your SD. We'll see you in a few days when you've stopped sobbing.

Thanks, Aussie Nintendo. You've made by damn day.

HOLY ************************** THIS IS AWESOME! @Austin_SJ EXACTLY, Pictures and Videos thats NOT from the 3DS directly will look crappy compared to viewing them on the 3DS itself

Wow. These are amazing! The Mario Galaxy screens really show off how well 3D could work in games! Plus the Resi ones are just stunning.

For people who don't know what to do:extract the rar which will turn the photos into .mpo(s) Put the mpos in the DCIM-100NIN03 folder of your 3ds SD card.

  • BoltActionRevolver - May 10, 2011 5:38 p.m.

Again, it seems that, though a good effort, one or two images just didn't mesh well. Atleast, I hope its the images and not my eyes. Eitherway, things close up don't work so well it seems in a couple images

The day F-Zero comes out in 3D is the day I start living
  • DarkTone - May 10, 2011 4:49 p.m.

I love it when things like this happen.
  • EnragedTortoise1 - May 10, 2011 4:31 p.m.

@Austin_SJ It's the same principle as prerendered cutscenes. It may be able to run video of something like that, but that's because the images are individually rendered, instead of having to render all possible objects within the player's view. At least, that's what I think. I'm not a technological genius, so I'm just speculating.
  • Austin_SJ - May 10, 2011 4:20 p.m.

Is a still 3D image as easy to run as a full 3D game? I'm assuming we will never see the quality on a 3DS game looking as good as the screenshots supposedly do, due to processing power and what not, or am I wrong?
  • Razzamoly - May 10, 2011 4:20 p.m.

    downloading... How pics are there?
