Have you participated in Twitch plays Pokemon? or do you value your time and sanity and prefer to use them in more productive ways?

Jesus, Cooper - we get it! You are no good at Dark Souls. Now please, give it a rest! Here's the thing you continually fail to understand: Dark Souls requires an incredible amount of patience, patience that eventually pays off HUGE, provided you commit to that investment. The whole idea of the game - the core, really - is "keep getting spanked until you learn". Possibly more than any other game before it, you need to put real effort into it before you get anything out of it, which is a very welcome change considering the ridiculous amount of hand-holding that most other games insist on. Fans of Dark Souls love that "barrier to entry", as it were. It wouldn't be Dark Souls otherwise - the payoff simply wouldn't be there. You see, after a while a seasoned Dark Souls player really starts to feel bad ass. Not because you've leveled up sufficiently, or found some stat-boosting items. Those help, certainly, but not enough to carry you. In the end YOU must train your brain. YOU must learn the ways of it's rigid combat system and unforgiving environments. YOU must overcome. Not your in-game character. YOU. The game settles for nothing less and grants those that persevere the greatest reward: a real honest-to-God sense of accomplishment, a near-tangible sense of victory against all odds. And sorry, but no, we can't "all agree that they need to make Dark Souls 2 a lot easier". I doubt even Ryan would agree - he seems to "get it", whereas you clearly do not. Case in point: More checkpoints? Regenerating health? You are joking, right? Wait, did you just say "to make the game more accessible to casual gamers who really want to play it"? News flash: Dark Souls doesn't cater to casual gamers. Sorry. Why would it? Why tarnish the singularly most important aspect of the franchise? Oh, I see - "because right now it's just not fun because it's really hard". Yes, it's really hard. But also very fun. Maybe not right away (although I did love Demons Souls and Dark Souls even when I was getting my ass handed to me) but as mentioned earlier, you get out what you put in. If after a few spanks you start crying about your butt hurting, it's probably a strong indication that Dark Souls is simply not for you. That's OK. Demons Souls and Dark Souls are definitely not games for everybody. That's also sort of the point (and also quite welcome among fans in this day and age of "gotta cater to everyone" game design). And yes, yes it would be "such an easy fix". But that's not going to happen, is it? Do you know why? BECAUSE THE DEVELOPERS REALIZE THEY HAVE A MASSIVE HIT ON THEIR HANDS AMONG A NICHE AUDIENCE AND ARE WILLFULLY MAINTAINING THEIR STANCE TO MAINTAIN BRAND LOYALTY. Jesus man, did you really need it spelled out like that? "But how could an easy mode hurt", you ask? Simply put, inclusion of such a mode would allow anyone to say "I beat Dark Souls", which DEFEATS THE WHOLE POINT. We wear our badge of "I beat Dark Souls" quite proudly, mainly because there is no misunderstanding in terms of what that means. It's a statement that stands on it's own with no further "well what difficulty?" clarification required. It's an honor earned that speaks for itself, period. That said, bear in mind there are many Dark Souls fans out there that haven't beat it (yet), most of whom I'm sure would shutter at the thought of an "easy mode". They don't want the opponent to "throw the fight". They don't even want it to be an option. They want to beat the game on it's terms, or die trying over and over and over again until they get it right, dammit. So PLEASE stop blaming the game because you are simply no good at it, or simply don't have the patience for it, or simply don't have the time to invest in it. Those are all fair and valid points. But for the love of God man, get over the fact that Dark Souls is CLEARLY NOT FOR YOU.

How many self promotions can you fit into one episode of Ask GR? A lot of them this week.
  • GR_GregHenninger - February 18, 2014 9:55 a.m.

Cooper's troll almost got me angry, especially with that voice. But I think Anthony's thief idea sounds pretty cool, we can dream

  • universaltofu - February 17, 2014 9:17 p.m.

What should retro work on next ; Metroid (maybe a continuation of the prime series, maybe a second attempt on the Other M formula), Donkey Kong Country ( barrel wasteland ), a different Nintendo series, or something of their own?
  • GOD - February 17, 2014 8:42 p.m.

Greg.... what do I have to do to get one of those Luffy plushies? (The ones you were smashing together at the beginning and end of the episode) What side character from a game would you want to star in their own game?
  • supergiraffe - February 17, 2014 8:25 p.m.

Can we just get a video of people showing off their action figure collections?
