Garrus saves the day in Mass Effect 3 combat trailer

Shepard shouts commands while Liara gets her shit ruined by an Atlas walker

Commander Shepard may be a natural leader, but in combat he's easily matched by the skills of his squadmates. With Liara's bone-crushing biotics and Garrus's panty-dropping sniper action, the crew of the Normandy can handle whatever threat the galaxy throws at them. In this Mass Effect 3 combat trailer from Gamescom, BioWare highlights Shepard's ability to direct his deadly team for a coordinated assault. The situation gets tough when an Atlas walker tosses Liara like a ragdoll and Shepard starts freaking out because his shields are down, but trust Garrus to save the day and turn the tide of battle.

Above: It looks like Shepard's omniblade can equip an incendiary upgrade (we're guessing this corresponds with the same ammo upgrade)

Above: In case you can't be bothered to watch the video, this pretty much sums it up

We get excited over new Mass Effect 3 anything, but as cool as this trailer is, it's pretty light on new details. It appears to be the first part in a series, so let's hope that BioWare and EA keep the info flowing.

i have a question, does anyone know if it's confirmed that liara is going to be a squadmate? because that begs the question what the F-- happened to samara/morinth then? does this mean they die early in the 3rd game? unlike 2 this one is supposed to start right after the events of the suicide mission, so it seems a bit of a spoiler or a case of the developers don't have faith that the players could keep samara/morinth alive during the final mission of 2. so anyone knows what's up?

Oh my god that's too long from now!!!!!!!!

As long as they polish up their animations, this just made me look forward to ME3 that much more.

I must be honest, watching this has made my excitement for ME3 LOWER. I couldn't help but notice the blandness of the entire thing, the poor camera angles whenever they went for something beyond the default and overall it felt like a poorly made machinima for ME2 rather than a ME3 gameplay trailer. Whoo! Garrus! My man! Or.. Turian... Whatever, he's awesome!

I like the addition of the dodge roll.

As soon as I heard Garrus was a guaranteed crew member in ME3 I was like "the Reapers are fucked, we got this". Him and Shepard together are unstoppable. I didn't die once across ME1 or 2 as long as I had him in my party. He's like a fucking good luck charm. Just one more reason Archangel was the perfect alias for him. Fuckin heaven's on his side man, how can you argue with that?

That logo at the start looked a lot like the Systems Alliance emblem. Hopefully means that Shepard will be back on the winning team.

"Panty dropping action." What are you driving at, Carolyn?

Oh Garrus - I love you. So does my FemShep - she was still feeling that totally romantic headbutt the next morning, you could tell. Speaking of which, if they're still going to use the male Shepard in trailers and commercials, then what was the whole point of the redesign of FemShep? I thought they were using her for ads, adverts and trailers?

Some thing about "panty-dropping sniper action" really cracks me up.

Is it just me or did it sound like Liara had some bones broken when the mech picked her up, there was a snapping/bone breaking type sound. I always liked Garrus he is alway cool, calm and collected when stuff went down. I mean in that video he calmly took the shots, no hurry, no sweat, no problem.

Those were some slick calibrations by the sexiest Turian in the galaxy.

Actually, each class gets a specific melee takedown. The flaming bitch slap we just saw probably corresponds to the Infiltrator or Engineer.

That picture is the best thing ever.
  • jackthemenace - August 16, 2011 10:09 p.m.

SCOPED and DROPPED. Target: CALIBRATED. This looks fucking awesome. It still looks as action-y as the second one, hopefully things like power recharges and levelling up are more akin to the first one. Other than that, totally badass. Now sights are an improvement, and KNOWING Garrus will be in my party is consolation enough.
  • Clovin64 - August 16, 2011 10:08 p.m.

The Garrus romance in ME2 seemed like a one-night thing, so I'm still hoping I'll be able to confess my undying love for him in ME3. I <3 Calibrations!

zamn, liara just got tore the hale up; if some atlas mech tossed me aside like that, someone best hold my hoop earrings and my stilletos because some shit's about to go DOWN
