Welcome to GamesRadar's daily blast of all things pertaining to the ever-growing field of game music. Each post will introduce new sounds, games, composers and fan-made remixes of gaming's greatest aural achievements.

Game: Galcon Fusion
Song: Main Menu
Composer: Tim Inge

Above: Galcon Fusion's life-affirming menu track

Galcon Fusion, the latest in a series by independent developer Phil Hassey, is one intense, hectic sonnuva strategy game. Players battle for control of planets by flinging suicidal squadrons of spaceships back and forth across a 2D map... but that description doesn't really do it justice, so give it a try sometime. It isn't for everyone, but it helps that it sounds awfully nice too...

The music, which is credited to collaborator Tim Inge, who has been making stuff with Phil Hassey since at least 2006 (see abandoned website below), is some of the most enjoyable cheesy space music I've heard in a while.

Here's another fun clip, this time from the multiplayer lobby. This melody was stuck in my head for a week once, and I may have just doomed myself to another.

And just for fun, here's an old track by Hassey and Inge, which I found on an abandoned 2006 website of theirs. It makes me smile:

I remixed this music! Tim Inge did a great job composing it, my version just adds bigger orchestration.

That's better. I really like this. I wasn't so keen on the metal-ness of Red Alert so this is a great follow-up.

Oh hey! The multiplayer lobby song is the one used in the iPhone App variant of Galcon.

This music is great but the soundtrack to PSN game Shatter is so much better. That really needs to be game music of the day some day

So true, I kept the demo for this game on my pc for monthsjust so I could listen to the menu track.

Really great music especially the menu music. Love the game music of the day too, also love when people other than Brett put up their music of the day, not that Brett's music isn't awesome but I love hearing other people's music they've got stashed away

Yeah I can see where Abbotfrizzell is coming from, it does sorta remind me of Donkey Kong. Very cool space music, kinda cheesy but in a good way. The first track sort of sounds like a techno remix of what could have been a theme from an old arcade shmup, it has that quality. Nice choice Tyler!

heh the classical funk song is super BA

Glad you guys are enjoying these. Sharing is caring! Anyway, I've got more tucked away. Go on vacation more, Brett, so I can get these off my back!

The multiplayer track blew my mind all over the walls, and then reassembled in my now funkified skull. Honestly Tyler, I LOVED the Fallout 2 music, and I really enjoyed the C&C music, but this is easily my favorite of yours. I feel so mellowed out, yet hyped up for a rave, as well as getting ready to blast into space. Thank you.

Go to hell, FNG. I've never heard of the game. It is indeed worthy of being named a GMotD; it's very ambient, very Mirror's Edgey. Speaking of, ME2 plox, EA. Abbotfrizzell is spot on; there definitely is something monkey-like about "Classic Funk".
  • FNG - August 18, 2010 4:15 a.m.

    oops double post, my bad
  • FNG - August 18, 2010 4:13 a.m.

Is that a spoonerism? Isn't it supposed to be Falcon Gusion? No, that's not right either.
  • abbottfrizzell - August 18, 2010 4:01 a.m.

Classic funk makes me think of Donkey Kong for some reason. Defiantly going to check out the game though.

    FIRST Good music
