Dr. Cthulhu and the Electric Dragon
A new creature joined Evolve's roster of monsters today: Kraken. I'd played Evolve a bit back when it was revealed and enjoyed ripping apart the hunters with the hulking brute Goliath, but my time with Kraken was definitely more electric. While it was fun to tear my opponents down by breathing fire and tossing rocks, the skillset of Kraken was a good deal more nuanced. Goliath is Godzilla meets King Kong. Kraken is a pissed off ball of electronic calamari. He's a monster.
His moveset was complicated, but I got the hang of it before too long--I was able to drop landmines, blast enemies with focused lasers, send out electronic pulses, and shoot a vortex of air that would cause my enemies to flip around uncontrollably. These worked great as I moved around the map, taking down the wildlife and devouring them to power up my shield. Eventually, I filled my belly to the brim with the bodies of creatures to evolve--putting more points into my skills, and growing in strength. Oh, and I could fly and blast enemies with powerful beams from afar. I found myself mixing together the abilities together and trying to find new ways to incapacitate my foes. The mines worked well as distractions, keeping them on their toes as I tried to separate them with my vortex.
After a few minutes, I evolved again, getting even stronger. I noticed their medic was a little ways away from the team and made my move, incapacitating the healer and camping his corpse as they tried desperately to resurrect their only source of health. They failed. I knocked them on their asses, slashed at them with my massive tentacles, and devoured their corpses. It was super fun, and I'm excited to play more as the Kraken, and to fight him as the hunters when the game releases later this year.
