Don't install GTA 5's play disc on Xbox 360

If you're getting GTA 5 on Xbox 360 tomorrow, don't install the play disc to your hard drive. Rockstar issued the recommendation on its Twitter account today.

The Xbox 360 version has a disc for installing and a disc for playing. If you get too excited about this whole "installing" thing and do it for both, you may find your performance suffers. Rockstar didn't say why, but that it will have more info on its support site after launch.

Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions require an 8 GB install from the install disc to play, in case you need to clear up some space.

Hi I was wondering how much gb does it take to install gta 5 disc 2 not the xbox 360 because i have recently just scratched disc 2 and my friend is going let me borrow gta 5 disc 2 the play disc so when i play my scratched version it will actually let me play because it will have been saved to my xbox and on every forum i go i can't find the answer all i find is that the one time mandatory install is 8gb but i know that and others post that i shouldn't install disc 2 on my xbox 360 and all i want is the simple answer cuz i have a 16 gb usb and i wana know if i should buy a larger one because i have the mandatory install already on there so it takes up 8 gb of storage so i just wana know before my friend lets me borrow disc 2

Well I went and installed the play disk and I feel the load times got faster. My GTA 4 disk got scratched so I'm installing EVERYTHING just incase from that day.

All I know is the PS Store says 36GB required for a digital download. That is pretty impressive.

Was the time to release still too early, after the months of delay...

So the install disc is not a install disc..... hmm... what are they smoking over there?

The install disc is an install disc. The PLAY disc is NOT for install. The article's pretty clear, man.

Come on! they said that that the ps3 version wouldn't need a 2nd disk because of blueray, so did they shitafi it for equality?

I don't see where in this article it implies this problem exists for PS3 or that PS3 has two disks. It simply says that PS3 requires an 8GB install.

If the tech in the PS3 is better then i would believe that the playstaion version should not need the same 8GB install that the Xbox has.

Not sure your point here. A) It fits on one disk, because Blu-ray is a large format disk. B) Installing game files to disk has nothing to do with "better techz inside" because of the fundamental difference between optical disks and hard disk drives, namely read speed and seek latency. MGS4 installed about 5 GB, and Arkham City installed about 4GB, and if you played enough of Fallout3, you'd have a gigantic resource file as things were cached to disk on the fly. No one ever, EVER said Blu-ray was as fast as a contemporary hard drive or that installing game files to disk wouldn't speed load times. This has been a common optimization going back to the first PC that had CD-ROM and the first games that were distributed on CD-ROM. Heck this goes back before even that because fixed disks have always been faster than floppies and installing to the fixed disk was a way of speeding up the load times instead of loading from floppy. And if you are still insistent on this point, then ask yourself why the Xbone, which is far more powerful than either PS3 or 360, requires game installs. I guess Xbone must be worse than the 360....

I'm not interested in how FAST it loads, im talking about how MUCH space is in the disk. Bluerays can hold way more data than a HD disk so the install shouldn't really need to be on the hard drive because it can fit on the disk.

It does fit on the Blu-ray disk...where else is it copied from if not from the disk? Installs to hard drives are for optimizing the load times so people don't whine about how long it takes to fire up the game every time. If you do the math, someone said the digital is 36GB, and Blu-rays hold way more than that. Ergo, the install to hard drive isn't about not fitting on the Blu-ray. The article here only mentioned Xbox having two disks.
