Scrape away the layers of dense, detailed special effects that honey-coat this, the first computer-generated feature to have emerged entirely from Germany, and you'll eventually unearth the vaguest trace of a half-written plot. Boo and Zino, two talking woodland creatures of unspecified origin, are sent on a quest to return a life-giving orb to their beleaguered hometown. Upon this fag-packet premise, a visually spectacular, - yet hollow-sounding - kids' flick is constructed.
If Boo, Zino And The Snurks was half as interested in crafting a story as it is in flexing its technical muscle, a decent film might have resulted. Sadly, it isn't. The dialogue is stunted while the jokes are blunt and laboured, as though lost in translation somewhere between here and the depths of Hamburg. All of which amounts to cracks too deep to be wallpapered over by sheer weight of CGI. We applaud the effort - just wake us up when it's finished.
