I mostly played A Link Between Worlds in 5 minute bursts. The dungeons are all laid out so you can stop at any time and still easily pick up right where you left off, and you are never more than a minute away from a save statue. Sometimes I would just hop on and spend 2 minutes looking for little snail dudes.

I have a few games downloaded on the 3DS for this purpose. I was pleased as hell to recently find Super Street Fighter IV 3D was available in digital form and now it's my default way to kill a few minutes. That and the fantastic Bomberman Blitz, an easy $5 sell for me.

I will never get the love for animal crossing. I tried it on the GameCube and within 20 minutes I felt depressed that I had just wasted so much time, I didn't have any fun at all. I've never played a game and had so much "negative" fun

I can't really stand mobile games but Ridiculous Fishing is actually really fun and I found myself playing it a lot. I personally would also add the super addicting Super Hexagon to this list, because rounds in that game will only last you about 20 seconds on average. Cause it's hard. Cause you're bad. Cause it hates you. But you can't stop trying. Also the music is really good. The touch controls are also super reliable because you either touch one half of the screen or the other to move clockwise or counter clockwise. This allows for a super intense fast paced game to reliably work on a touch screen. Something I haven't found to work with any other mobile game. Ryan, if you haven't tried Super Hexagon, Doooo it! I swear by it.

LOVE that game. Started to get pretty good at it, too!

Animal Crossing is fun and it just draws you in, I have spent alot of hours playing the Wii version. I'm not sure if I should get new leaf or wait until the Wii U version of the game.

Definitely go New Leaf! The inevitable Wii U version is no doubt ~2 years out, if not more.

The man in Ridiculous Fishing looks like an old man Ash Ketchum.
