A new comic book series called Thief Of Thieves masterminded by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, is already set to become a TV series on AMC.
Thieves debuted in comic book form earlier this year and was inspired by Kirkman’s experience in the writers’ room for the TV version of his zombie hit The Walking Dead . After observing how getting a group of writers together inspired ideas, Kirkman decided to experiment with adapting a similar creative process on a comic book. The first arc of the comic is being written by Nick Spencer with art by Shawn Martinbrough. Kirkman created the story, which has a heist theme, and has appointed head writers in charge of each arc.
And in a case of coming full circle, AMC, the channel that airs The Walking Dead , is now developing Thief Of Thieves for the small screen. Robert Kirkman, David Alpert and Chic Eglee ( The Shield , Dexter ) will executive produce, with Eglee as showrunner. Eglee also worked on The Walking Dead season one.
The comic is about a master thief called Conrad Paulson aka Redmond. There is nothing he can't steal, and nothing he can't have... except for the life he left behind. Now, with a grown son he hardly knows, and an ex-wife he never stopped loving, Conrad must try to piece together what's left of his life, before the FBI finally catch up to him... but it appears they are the least of his worries.
"Much like The Walking Dead brought horror to television in a unique and groundbreaking way, I feel Thief Of Thieves can do the same thing for heist stories, showing the humanity of all the characters, including the criminals," says Kirkman. “AMC recognise the limitless ideas generated by the comic industry. Their dedication to bringing The Walking Dead to life as a TV show has been key to its success and I'm excited about the potential of Thief Of Thieves to reach similar levels of success."
