Nightwing outed as fourth playable Arkham City character

Besides patrolling the streets of Arkham City as the Dark Knight himself, Batman: Arkham City will allow players to don the tights of several other characters in downloadable challenge rooms and campaign packs. Catwoman was confirmed to be getting some levels soon after the game was announced, and, more recently, Robin (Tim Drake) was confirmed as a downloadable character gained through pre-ordering the game at select retailers. But a fourth (and final) character was still unrevealed... until today. Thanks to a leaked Trophy list we know that it's Nightwing, which really shouldn't be even remotely surprising to anyone who knows Batman's lore.

From the sounds of things, Nightwing will be getting the same amount of content as Catwoman and Robin are outside the core game. We don't know yet where this pre-order DLC will originate from, though we expect to hear more in the near future, what with the game coming out this month and all.

For those who aren't well-versed in the Batman mythos, Nightwing is the guise taken by the original Robin, Dick Grayson, who retired from the position of Boy Wonder when he was, well, no longer a boy. At 18 he turned in his short-shorts and red shirt for a form-fitting blue and black outfit to assert his independence as a crime fighter (and show off his wicked abs).

There have been a few different Nightwings in DC's history, but we're going to bet that Arkham City is going to be pulling Grayson's Nightwing into the game. There's technically a chance that Rocksteady is going with another Nightwing from the comics, but odds are they're sticking with the most well-known version, and not tapping sociopath Tad Ryerstad, who uses the name "Nite-Wing" based on an all-night deli specializing in chicken wings. Stranger things have happened, though...
