George RR Martin kills off Game of Thrones movie rumor

A report from The Daily Star emerged this past weekend concerning a big screen outing for Game of Thrones. The site offered white-hot intel on a spinoff feature set to revolve around an earlier point in the show's established timeline - and it even cited George RR Martin as a source. Except: NOPE.

According to the site, "[HBO] are looking at dipping back in time during certain periods of the series, which could be examined as a one off plot. That means that some of the big characters who fans have seen die on screen could be resurrected." The Internet exploded after the news hit, along with Martin's statement that it's happening without his involvement.

Martin took to his personal blog today to respond to the escalating wave of fans desperate for more info and debunked the whole thing. "[It's] completely false. No one is working on any movie just now. And if there was a movie, it would not be about Robert's Rebellion."

Though Martin firmly states that no one's working on a Game of Thrones movie now, he doesn't rule out a future big screen feature, especially seeing as HBO brass has previously dropped hints about one further down the line. For your next dose of Westerosi action, though, you'll have to wait until next April when Game of Thrones season 6 starts up.
