Bayonetta joins the Super Smash Bros. roster in February 2016

It was quite the surprise when Nintendo secured exclusive rights to Bayonetta 2 - a violent action game starring a beautiful witch with long legs and a love of lollipops seen as a bit more … adult than the usual company faire. Well, prepare to feel that surprise again, because Bayonetta is coming to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS.

Nintendo revealed during their final Smash Bros-related Nintendo Direct presentation today that Bayonetta will come with both her short hair and original costumes, as well as the Umbra Clocktower stage. She looks like quite the agile fighter too, able to dish out air combos like no one else on the roster. Her Final Smash is also a bit different from other fighters in that it activates in two phases.

In the first phase, Bayonetta slows down time for all opponents, letting her score easy damage. As she does so, she builds a gauge shown at the center of the screen. If this gauge fills, she summons the demon Gamora, which bites at Bayonetta's foes. Any enemy with more than 100% damage caught in the attack is instantly KO'd.

Nintendo says it’s "targeting" Bayonetta for a February 2016 release date, as well as a Bayonetta amiibo further down the line. Until then, feel free to bask in the beauty of her challenger art, as drawn by Platinum Games:
