UK-based? A short subscription to PS Plus is about to cost you more

PlayStation Plus, the combined online subscription service and treasure trove of free games, is about to get a price hike in the UK - but only if you purchase one-month or three-month subscriptions.

Speaking to Gamespot, a PlayStation UK spokesperson said, “We are dedicated to bringing PlayStation Plus members the best possible service with the most compelling content. From September 1, 2015 we will be increasing the price of monthly and three-month PlayStation Plus subscriptions in line with market conditions."

New prices have not yet been confirmed (they currently stand at £5.49 for a month, and £11.99 for three), but a recent rise in South Africa increased the cost by 50%. The new prices will apply to PS Plus users on all three PlayStation consoles.

Crucially, the current £39.99 cost for a yearly subscription will not change - a cynical man would say Sony is giving users a quiet nudge towards the (admittedly, excellently priced) top end. I am a cynical man.
