Tom Hardy drops out of Suicide Squad

David Ayer’s Suicide Squad adaptation has suffered its first major setback with The Wrap reporting that Tom Hardy has dropped out of the production.

Hardy had been scheduled to star as Rick Flagg, the leader of the titular group of supervillains, but has been forced to withdraw from the role on account of scheduling issues.

However, the report goes on to claim that Warner has already identified a potential replacement, with Jake Gyllenhaal the studio’s first choice to step into the breach.

Should Gyllenhaal take the role, it would represent a reunion between himself and End Of Watch director Ayer, although nothing has been officially confirmed as yet.

Co-starring Will Smith, Jai Courtney, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Cara Delavingne, Suicide Squad will open in the UK and US on 5 August 2016.
