Do you smell that? Ah, yes, it's the unmistakable aroma of afailed consoledesperately tryingto be loved again on a successful console. The first downloadable Dreamcast game will be making its way to the Xbox 360 in just a couple weeks.
Sonic Adventure, known to many fans as the last Sonic game worth caring about, will be sliding onto Xbox Live Arcade on September 15 for the affordable price of $10.
Sega announcedearlier this yearit would be bringing Dreamcast games to the Xbox 360 and PS3. While only a handful of actual worthwhile titles in the Dreamcast's discarded history actually come to mind, it's still cool to see the "Virtual Console" atmosphere that was first kicked off by the Wii continue to fill up.
Although Sonic Adventure had its fair share of bugs, I'll debate anyone anytime, anywhere that Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Sonic Heroes and Sonic Unleashed were pitiful by comparison. But then again, I just liked the fact that I could play as Eggman and repeatedly throw my little Chao pets into a wall of rocks.
Above: Unfortunately, even in high definition, you still have to wade through Big the Cat's boring fishing missions
No word yet on when Sonic Adventure will be coming to PS3, but hopefully there won't be a significant time gap. After all, PS3 owners still don't have a downloadable version of classic Sonic 2 even though it's been on the 360 and Wii for years now.
The only other Dreamcast title officially confirmed for a download release is Crazy Taxi, though Jet Set Radio appears to be in the bucket list too. But as far as we're concerned, Sega's job here will not be complete until the Japanese Dreamcast bus simulation gameTokyo Bus Guidehas been ported to all of the current-gen consoles. But we'll take Sonic Adventure for now.
