Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will introduce us to a number of new characters, but it could also feature appearances from some familiar ones.
The latest trailer for the Harry potter prequel went so far as to name-check Albus Dumbledore, and when MTV caught up with stars Alison Sudol and Dan Fogler at CinemaCon they dutifully quizzed them on who we might see in the upcoming Winter release; “I wouldn’t say there are a lot", teased Sudol, "but because it is its own world and it’s also so much earlier, there are people who are alive.”
Unfortunately (and undestandably), Fogler wasn't much more forthcoming; “You do meet…as the stories go along…you…you…I can’t give it away! You will see, you will hear mention of your favorite characters and you may even meet their younger counterparts along the way.”
Clearly the cast is under strict orders not to give the game away, but these comments heavily imply that there's a good chance we'll see younger versions of characters we know and love. It will be interesting to see if and how Warner Bros go about teasing this as the film gets closer to release; having it be a surprise would be great, but if fans know it's happening it could provide a little boost at the box office.
Directed by David Yates and starring Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Colin Farrell, Samantha Morton, Jon Voight, Gemma Chan, Ron Perlman, and Ezra Miller, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is scheduled to arrive in UK and US cinemas on November 18, 2016.
