Sony has shut down PlayStation subsidiary and Demon's Souls remake developer Bluepoint Games a little more than a year after the developer's live-service God of War project was canceled.
A PlayStation spokesperson told Bloomberg that Bluepoint Games will be closing its doors in March "following a recent business review." The studio closure will leave around 70 developers without jobs.
"Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community," the spokesperson said. "We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftmanship."
Bluepoint Games is a respected game developer based in Austin, Texas and founded in 2006. Following a lackluster debut with the PS3 shooter Blast Factor, the studio made a name for itself in the remaster and remake space with the God of War, Metal Gear Solid HD, and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collections, and then later its acclaimed remakes of Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus.
Following its acquisition by Sony in 2021, the studio stepped in as co-developer on God of War: Ragnarok alongside Sony Santa Monica and then was handed an unannounced multiplayer God of War game, which was canceled in January 2025. According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, the studio then spent the last year pitching projects to Sony and trying to figure out its next moves.
Many fans were hoping Sony would eventually task Bluepoint with remaking FromSoftware's beloved 2015 action-RPG Bloodborne, but unfortunately the prospects of a remake of that game happening are now grimmer than ever.

After earning an English degree from ASU, I worked as a corporate copy editor while freelancing for places like SFX Magazine, Screen Rant, Game Revolution, and MMORPG on the side. I got my big break here in 2019 with a freelance news gig, and I was hired on as GamesRadar's west coast Staff Writer in 2021. That means I'm responsible for managing the site's western regional executive branch, AKA my home office, and writing about whatever horror game I'm too afraid to finish.
